Tenth Tribute in the Rice Paddy Fields

The tip of the tributes boot catches on a small stone in their path as they wind their way up the fields. It's odd—the tribute looks back at the rock that had tripped them up, but there's nothing there. They look around, confused, feeling unsettled, until a small creature pitters up the rock face nearby. It pauses at the top of it, long body now extended, looking back at the tribute. Before scampering away, tributes may notice it's odd, segmented shell; it almost looks like if curled up, the creature could be a small stone. A glint catches the light as it leaves, something shiny in its clutches. Another creature nearby leaps into the sky from it's hiding place, diving after the small ferret creature as if in pursuit of whatever is in its clutches. Strange wisps of shadow shimmer off the flying creature, almost catlike in its form if it wasn't for the flimsy wings sprouting from its back. The tribute swallows, and can only hope that thing keeps flying away.
