I am not dragged far from the place where Svetlana killed, the dead weight that I am right now with a gaping hole in my thigh. For awhile I have been staring down at the wound as I sit on the floor of the forest, every few minutes a new blossom petal flutters down from the trees above. Some even landing on my leg and hiding the blood that is beginning to crust on my skin. The bleeding has stopped which I suppose is a good thing. The pain is still throbbing, and the actual gash looks nasty has hell.

I bite down on a thick green leaf, one of the few that I remember from the plant stations as being medicinal. It is not enough though to contain the pain that tremors up my frame when I try to guide the thread and needle to seal up the wound. My leg keeps recoiling and twitching every time the it touches my skin.

Dying of an infection is probably the most uninspiring way to go. Old people are taken by infections on their sick beds, I am not being just another old person. A hug from the heart will not cure this wound. The courage has already taken me to safety, it needs to be brains to give me an idea on how to tend to my injuries.

I am becoming more and more reliant on the others. A contrast from the girl that used to just slip out of the house with just herself to watch her back at night. ”Please Svetlana help me with this. I need someone to hold my leg so that I don’t move.” The girl herself looks just as pummeled as I do but she carries her injuries better than I. ”I will help you with yours too. I hope I don’t need to explain why I am neat with a thread and needle.”

svet had made it out with her life, but she did not feel any sort of pleasure in it. this was survival, and that meant that someone had to die. she made that distinction, and while adan was probably not expecting it, neither was svet.

she had to do what she needed to make sure that she was the one to get home.

she followed dorothy and theo and elm, and all of them seemed to feel some sort of exhaustion. svet was bleeding profusely, but she had energy still. dorothy did as well, even though it seemed like a big chunk of her leg had been taken out. svet has seen this wound before, but on her fathers leg. a wild animal had gotten too close, latched their mouth onto his leg and clamped down. hard.

she did not know then how to help him, but he taught her, and she told herself that she would never do that again.

being helpless in a situation like that is the worst feeling that one could have.

so when dorothy called out to svet to help her with the patching up, svet did not need any encouragement. in fact, she didnt even need dorothy to help her with the use of a needle, her father had steady hands, and her mother had made various things with yarn that she traded for. it was knowledge that had already been passed down to her. "just hold still dorothy." svet has remained calm, even though she is uncomfortable herself.

"youre going to feel a little pressure." she has five feet of the bandages in her hand. she begins to wrap them around dorothy's leg and pull. tight. not so tight that it cuts off the blood flow, but tight enough so that bandages wont come off. once she does a couple wrap arounds, she tells her to hold out another wound, and svet gets to work on that. she is skilled just enough to make all of this look effortless.

she never realized just how much her father had taught her.

she sat down, remembering that dorothy could help her with the needle and thread. the wound on her head would probably be the best for her to work on, because svet did not have a mirror to do it herself. she held it out for dorothy "i think the wound on my head is the one that needs the most work." she points to it. "show me."
