personality; * as corny as it may sound, vender is a complicated person. most people usually aim to get rid of the prejudice that surrounds them and their hometown, but vender willingly doesn’t follow this trend. he’s exactly the way you think he would be – as a capitolian, born and bred – and maybe even worse. the majority of his kinda short life was spent here, in the capitol, a city gorgeous, glistening and pretty much overall perfect. why would he think otherwise? a son of filthy rich, potentially sketchy parents, who’s never experienced nothing but all the gold and glitter the city has to offer. obviously, this kind of environment caused him to develop some pretty ugly characteristics – vender is obsessed with his self image and isn’t afraid to show it. most people see him as an annoying, unlikable prick who cares about nothing else but screwing a different girl every night, but luckily, he's much more than just that.

* his parents did an excellent job when raising their son to match their standards. ever since he was a little boy, he was taught not to take crap from anyone - a citizen of the greatest city on earth should never be treated with nothing but utmost respect. and he makes sure that this premise stays followed. vender gave a promise to himself; to never get his ass beaten by some people who were way beneath him anyway. whenever he gets angry, a crimson fog shrouds his thinking. there was one time when he almost killed a dog because it was too clingy for his liking. he regrets it, though, because he actually loves animals - obscure and weird ones, most notably lizards. hmm, the hyperfixation. vender owns a collection of various exotic lizard breeds and keeps them as pets. his favourite (by far) is a red-eyed crocodile skink called hades.

* vender isn't just a psychotic maniac, though; his personality has a second, rather pleasant antipole. even though he could never be perceived as nice, talkative and charming on the daily, once someone gets to know him, they realize vender is actually a huge nerd. as a person obsessed with lizards, nothing less could be expected from him anyway. vender seems pretty shallow on the outside, but the reality is far from this assumption. there's a deep understanding for the little stuff, also hidden pretty deep inside of him - he likes to look for beauty in ugliness and he's actually rather tender and loving, even though he rarely ever shows it. he's a romantic soul. he's usually high (sometimes not just figuratively) on the cloud nine and would rather escape to some kind of fictional reality than live in the current one. moreover, vender tends to rely on the higher entities and his destiny, which kinda slows down his positive character development - lazy would be the perfect word to describe him. however, when the circumstances call for action, he can be very adamant when it comes to reaching his goals; he's unconditionally loyal to the ones he loves and there's no doubt he'd kill for them. sadly, because of his tendency to get rather absent-minded, he hurts them more often than he helps them.

* bad luck seems to be a pretty constant part of his life, even though he basically won the genetic lottery in various aspects. people often think he's completely dumb, but fortunately, that's not the case - he's just a little bit too buried inside of his own mind, which is the result of his dreamy nature. he loves movies, video games and the pop culture in general; he's probably somewhere on the autistic spectrum, but he'd never actually admit it - he'd probably rather... engage in small talk with strangers (ah yes, oddly specific).

appearance; * his style and overall appearance is based on the desired effect he’d like to have on people around him. more often than always, he can be seen head to toe in black – he hates any unwanted attention aimed at him, unless he wants it himself. however, since mother nature blessed him with an above-average height, not sticking out is basically impossible for him. a designer leather jacket he got from his grandparents is his most treasured possession and he can be rarely seen not wearing it. the only instance when he would toss it away is a rapid change of weather and possible loss of limbs due to extreme freezing cold, or a special event that requires formal attire. his face is mostly covered in thick, dark, precisely cut beard; the hairstyle is rather vintage – the good old slicked back, 50s kind of vibe. there’s a tiny tattoo behind his left ear; a rose, which symbolizes the fact that he’s actually not a complete asshole.

* his appearance is something he’s very serious about – he knows he’s hot and he often uses it to his advantage. however, vender doesn’t really understand why is it his appearance what makes him somewhat desirable, since his personality is off-putting to say the least. since he’s not actually shallow, he understands that the handsome face is just the tip of the iceberg and the actual qualities lay way beneath the surface. he’d be lying if he said that he didn’t like his handsome privilege, though. it used to be a free ticket into a girls‘ lap, but his priorities have changed since then. he’s actually rather annoyed when someone only acknowledges him because he’s hot – first world problems, yep. his height causes him to not gain weight easily, which results in a somewhat slender, lanky frame, although he compensates for it by spending hours in the gym. his legs are very long, which sometimes makes him look like a cartoon characer. at first glance, he may seem conventionally attractive, but it’s not 100% the case – there’s a large mole on the right side of his face, as well as a chicken pox scar, and his ears seem to be a bit too pointy.

background; * honestly, he was just lucky to be born into the right family – probably the last time he was lucky, though. he was born vender crius hyland in the capitol city; his middle name comes from his grandfather, who his mother was very close with before he died. vender’s childhood was as capitol-ish as it could get – he was obsessed with the hunger games, he religiously watched it with his parents and was always excited whenever they placed a bet on someone. throughout his life, he’s had about a million of crushes on the female tributes, but he obviously never got to turn them into reality, let alone get their signature, because most of them died in the arena anyway. his parents were obviously extremely happy that he was so enthusiastic about their favourite sport.

* everything changed when vender’s mother, amara, fell in love with gemstones and jewellery making. she took her family to D1, visited one of the manufacturers and basically purchased the company right away and turned it into her own – hyland industries, gemstone mining rig and the biggest luxury good producer in the district. their visit wasn’t supposed to be long, but the hyland family ended up staying in D1 for some time. during that period, vender was bullied by his new D1 classmates for his capitolian accent. it was all envy, but little vender thought the kids were just plain evil. that was when he decided to become the strongest, coldest version of himself, and it did really stick, because he hasn’t changed his ways ever since.

* when he was 15, his (super toxic) girlfriend at the time died in a tragic boat accident in D4. obviously, vender was depressed for years, because he felt like he could have saved her – he was there with her and he didn’t do much to help her, because he was… well, equally toxic. her death pretty much broke him, though. he started to engage in lots of one night stands and his coke addiction began. luckily, his parents forced him to go into rehab when he was 19, and he stayed clean ever since he got out. sounds like a happy ending, right? nope. drugs caused him to develop symptoms of schizophrenia and vender got finally diagnosed when he entered rehab. he’s been trying to live with his condition for years, and he’s actually been rather successful – he obtained a master’s degree in computer science, something nobody would ever think someone like him would achieve.
