Wasn't that a pleasant surprise? Rolling over I wrap an arm around their waist, pulling them closer. "Goooood morning- WHAT THE HELL GEMINI?!?" Instantly I am shoving them off the bed, hands grabbing for the dressing gown beside my bed. "You fucking crazy bitch! What are you doing back here? I told you the next time you showed your face up here I would feed it to Brutus! I fucking told-"

"Oh my god, Maddy-" I hated it when she called me Maddy. It drove me insane and I roll my eyes at her, glaring at the stupid nickname. She knew that I hated it, it was why she used it. "calm the fuck down." Gemini grins, picking herself up off of the ground she straightens her dress, looking rather pleased at herself.

I was not impressed. Gemini was like an itch that I couldn't get rid of. No, she was worse. She was more like a bad smell that refused to leave my fucking house. She was my Ex. And a stage five clinger that I couldn't seem to shake. My dad had warned me about her. He had said, "I wouldn't go sticking my fingers in that pie, if I were you!" Gross right? However, those cringe worthy words that had only driven me closer to her, and instead of a finger I had buried my whole fucking head.
Yeah, I have a problem. I was a grown ass man going though a rebellious phase. Apparently someone forgot to tell me that that was so not hot at the moment. Another forgotten downward trending phase someone had forgotten to clue me in on: hooking up with your on again off again ex apparently. The ick was growing with each passing minute, and I cradle my head in my hands.

"Oh, come on Maddy, I know you had fun-"

"Ugh," I groan, pushing off the bed. I'm sure last night had probably been amazing, the bits and pieces that I remembered, yeah it was safe to say it was a great fucking night. But how many times was I going to make the same mistake? Apparently at least a few more times because as I turn to demand Gem to leave once again I feel the desire begin to evaporate, probably because she had slipped off her dress, draping herself across my bed with a devilish grin.

"Fuck, Gem," I sigh, shaking my head as I toss a sheet over her, "put some damned clothes on-"

Pain erupts in my toe, sudden and instant and I curse, damning the bedside table that I had walked into. "Son of a bitch!" I hiss, catching my foot awkwardly in my hand to gently rub at the tip of my toe. Thats when I notice the letter that was half hidden under my bed, the Capitols sigil printed on the corner.

"Son of a bitch," I mutter once again, but it was different this time. Excited. Bits and pieces of last night had started to resurface.

Father had been over last night, he had been boasting, as per usual about some sort of big ass promotion the high council had decided to give him. But that hadn't been what we had been celebrating. No we were celebrating nepotism at its finest.

My father had gotten me a seat as the head table: Head Gamemaker.

It was not the first time dad had used his place to get me special treatment. Though after how the first time had ended... I had been pretty sure that I had burned my bridges.

It was how I had gotten the nickname 'mad dog'. A prank that had taken a turn for the worst. The prank king- my mates had asked me to stop calling myself that- had been knocked off his throne.

My mates often told me that when it came to pulling off pranks I either went to way to small or to fucking big.

And that time I had gone WAY to fucking big. It involved Brutus, my three headed hell hound- a story for another time.

Apparently, dad had decided to forgive me long enough to give me another shot. Thank you, Daddy.

"Oh hell, fucking, yes!" The pain in my toe had been forgotten. Head Gamemaker. For years I had sat on the sidelines, creating, taming and breeding vicious, deadly, mutts to terrorise and kill tributes in the games. I had always wondered what it might be like to take the seat at the head of the table. To be in charge. I had no doubts that it would be the closest thing to being a god.

To have the lives of 24 tributes at the tip of your fingers.

An exhilarating thought.

"I'm going to be Head Gamemaker next games." I look over at Gem, still wrapped in my sheet. Fuck it. I grin at her, my robe falling to the ground. "Brutus can go hungry today."
