94th Mechanic: The Seelie & Unseelie Courts

Are you a villain or a hero or somewhere in-between? Right before the Bloodbath, tributes find two orbs floating in front of them. One glows with light, another brooding with shadow.

Which calls to your heart?
Which draws your soul in?

Upon touch - which may be so delicate as to merely brush their fingertips against the orb - tributes will feel a rush of wind and be encompassed for a moment by either the light or shadows. Hesitant tributes will be ordered to pick one - quickly.

Depending on which orb they chose, each tribute will have been blessed by either the Spring or Gloaming Court. Each court brings favours and tricks, blessings and curses. Once betrothed to the court, the tribute cannot switch allegiances.

SPRING COURT (SEELIE) ☀🌻

The Seelies are a part of the Spring Court. 

Seelie Fey puts on a show of civility, values protocol, and uphold traditions. Proper etiquette and ceremony are a part of their core ideals. Drawn to sunshine, flowers, and birdsong, the Seelie Fey represents the vibrancy of the Feywild, but they are also reputed for their extreme revelry and pursuit of dangerous pleasures.  

Seelie Perks:

• Healing
  All Seelie-aligned tributes are able to get an additional (-1) healing each day, doubled to a (-2) if they are in an arena unaffected by blight. This benefit will be unavailable when only eight tributes or less remain.
  
  
• Food/Water
  All Seelie-aligned tributes can have a morsel of dried nuts and berries brought to them by woodland animals once per games. This benefit will be unavailable when only eight tributes or less remain.
  
  
• Special
  All Seelie-aligned tributes can experience the benefits of the light step or charisma station. The choice must be made when tributes pick their own stations, and this benefit will be unavailable when only eight tributes or less remain.

GLOAMING COURT (UNSEELIE) 🗡🥀

The Unseelies are a part of the Gloaming Court. 

Unseelie Fey indulges their primal instincts, abandons adherence to protocol, and shuns conformity. They tend to be intuitive and feral, known for mystical rituals and firelit parties. Drawn to gloom, cobwebs, and fireflies, the Unseelie Fey represents the wildness of the Feywild, and are often feared for their ambition the others mistake as being ruthless.

Unseelie Perks:

• Healing
  All Unseelie-aligned tributes are able to get an additional (-1) healing each day, doubled to a (-2) if they are in an arena affected by blight. This benefit will be unavailable when only eight tributes or less remain.
  
  
• Food/Water
  All Unseelie-aligned tributes can hunt down small game, skin them expertly, and eat it raw for once per games. This benefit will be unavailable when only eight tributes or less remain.
  
  
• Special
  All Unseelie-aligned tributes can experience the benefits of the rationing or smuggling station. The choice must be made when tributes pick their own stations, and this benefit will be unavailable when only eight tributes or less remain.

When touched, the orb latches onto the tribute’s hand and crawls up their arm, burying into their skin.

Using similar mechanics as the tribute trackers that are injected into their arms from canon and the Vampire/Werewolf Serum:

• Spring Court (Seelie) gains lighter-coloured eyes, clear skin and a faint glow as they move.
  
  
• Gloaming Court (Unseelie) gains a darker more intense shade of eye colour, clear skin, and a faint trace of shadow as they move.
  

When the changes take effect, the orb suddenly drops from the place on the tribute’s skin where it had latched, leaving small incisions that look like tiny bite marks: Seelie are gold, Unseelie are purple.
