He had some neat little keys and they let him into places, so like the adventurous hound he was, Jack found something to trail. He followed the signs far beyond the areas of the building he would've normally been allowed to enter, the lighting somehow even worse than the rest of the place and the passageways more narrow. He saw several stations sat up in ways that appeared to be little sanctuaries for the staff to hide away to on their breaks. He saw cigarette butts in ashtrays and refrigerators with labels like TECH SUPPORT TEAM ONLY and RICKY, IF I CATCH YOU STEALING MY MACARONI AGAIN I'M COMING TO YOUR HOUSE. posted onto their surfaces. He saw shoddy microwaves sitting on barren countertops and places with timesheets near exits that were now practically unseeable thanks to all of the locks and chains covering them.

Jack placed a hand against one of them. Probably, there were armed guards stationed just on the other side of it with their guns pointed right at his head. But the idea of freedom being just on the other side of it was a nice notion anyway, so he lingered there for a moment longer before pushing forward until finally he arrived at the mechanical room. He used his keycard and was pleasantly surprised to see the light flick to green. He stepped inside and sidled up to the controls.
