Surrounded by gold, he wonders what this is to represent. After being chased by the Capitol’s protest of pacifism, they’re shown piles of gold and riches. What does that show? They can’t hide forever? That allowing the Capitol to chase them with the threat of death is a trail that ends in life? He shakes his head, as he holds onto the water that’s been offered to him. While snow on the tip of his tongue offers that hydration, he feels a dryness in his throat.
Xov has wandered off, and he isn’t following Juno that close. With the small radio, he hopes that it can offer a tracking device for each other. He doens’t know how to feel about Juno, but this is the first time he’s felt a development on his feelings toward other tributes. More specifically, Vali.
She’s a loony one, as his dad sometimes offered in phrasing. She offered something different than what he knew bac home. Sure, he knew a lot of people. A lot of types of people, or so he thought. Part of him hoped that he’d only meet people like those who lived at the shelter. Homeless. Sad. Lost. But she was different, and he couldn’t tell how he liked it. Like a new flavor of citrus in his mouth. Acidic, and a blade against his tongue that he hadn’t experienced before.
As most people who hate change do, he thinks he hates the new taste. But it’s not going to be gone any time soon, not even left in his tastebuds, but in his dreams.
Even his dreams aren’t safe anymore.
It takes a lot to consider a moral evolution. He thinks it takes too much for now, as he replays Vali Forrester's words just moments ago. He shuffles over, turning onto his side. Maybe the radio will speak up soon enough.
