Post 9th annual hunger games.

I was forced to take down any video I had made during the 9th annual games, there were not many and thankfully my obnoxious pride made it difficult for me to admit working on a project I was not in total control of. Every snippet deleted until I could not stand to slowly kill a huge part of my passion. The last step in forever erasing my name from the games. There was nothing but hazy memories that I was ever even involved (and those memories could be taken care of one way or the other.)

A clean slate had never felt more painful. All I could do was scream in agony as I took it all down, the last five years of my life.

MalloMedia ceased to exist.

With death comes rebirth. After two and a half months of mourning my creation, my father tossed a check into my room…almost double the amount I originally had in my trust fund. It was everything I had needed to get MalloMedia up and running. This time I had an entire camera crew, a hair and make up team, an app development department…my employees helping me create my vision. The possibility to create documentaries without having to sacrifice my face in front of the camera.

Maybe the 9th games were exactly what I needed to get where I was meant to go.

10th annual hunger games – Opening day of the Exhibition.

“I would like to propose a toast to every single one of you! Less than a year ago, my life was at rock bottom and thought I would never pick up a camera. Today marks the relaunch of MalloMedia, a website and platform that was born of my passion and now reinvented with your dedication and hard work. I have no clue how I got so lucky to have you lot help me with my vision. A toast to us, MalloMedia is no longer my baby…it’s all of ours.”

A round of applause as the champaign flutes chimed the start of a new chapter.

My team set up the cameras in front of the cage as Selene Beaumont put the finishing touches on my makeup. She was one of my only friends that was allowed to mention the games in my presence. She wiped the tears from my face as I had laid in bed unable to move, paralyzed by my own despair. Even each breath had felt like a chore, one of my closest friends and it was only appropriate she was the creative vision of my new look. My old remarkable dark hair now bleached blonde alongside my eyebrows. My makeup heavy, red lipstick and a bright blush sticking out amongst the crowd.

A Mallory that now had the budget most professional studios had.

This was the dream.

“We go live in…3…2…1” Artie called behind the camera, never letting it budge from the position I insisted it stayed in.

“Hello everyone! Who ever thought you would see me again; I know the radio silence must have been torture especially for those of you who have been watching me since I was only eighteen years old. Well, I promise you that will never happen again because my god have I missed you all. I thought the perfect way to celebrate the official return of the Malachei Archives would be to take you along on a trip to the zoo today.”

The way my voice felt light in my sentences and my body loosened up in front of the camera was natural. I had documented most of my adult life, I had learned what it meant to be an adult in front of a camera…this was my safe space.

“As you all know, I have always had a soft spot for capitol locations which are rebuilding after the dark days. I have shown you around different neighborhoods…including where my good friend Selene grew up…I’m sure you remember her from the original cast of the Malachei Archives.”

I beckoned for her to come join me in front of the camera for old times sakes, knowing it would pull at the heartstrings of our original viewers, the ones who had grown up with us. We laughed with excitement as the camera caught a sincere hug and a short wave from her.

“Today we can finally walk the memory felt paths at the zoo and most importantly they have a brand-new exhibit I can’t wait to show you. In celebration of this year’s hunger games they have allowed us to view the tributes up close and personal. For the first time we get to see the tributes before they are sent to the arena…right here behind this cage.”

The camera swung to the cage filled with the tributes, a group of security guards surrounding my team and myself just out of view of the camera, allowing us the perfect front row view to the cage.

“Shall we see if any of them are willing to talk to us?”
