"I wouldn't say my confidence levels have been affected.
I'm figuring things out as I go."

What has impressed you most about the Capitol
since you've been here?

"The sounds. This city is full of them.
Sometimes, you can hear the nightlife through the walls.
It makes Eight feel so small, and reminds me why I want to go home."

Tell us what a typical day in your shoes is like back home.
Do you work? Do you have any hobbies or secret talents?

"I do work. I'm employed as a waitress,
but I also work odd jobs around town.
I used to play on my school's Exy team, and I still love the sport."

What about romance? Cute as you are,

"No, actually. I haven't had a partner since grade school.
I don't think I'm really in any rush for that sort of thing."

"It's just my mom, twin sister, and I. They're my people.
Mom makes some of the best dresses in the district,
and my sister has the most beautiful singing voice.
They make me feel like I can do anything."

"To my family, and back to what I know.
I just want to feel normal again."

"I never saw so many people. My mentor, 
he said to pretend they were just ants.
Or - well, he said pretend they were wearing their underwear! 
But I preferred the ants. That made it better."

How confident do you feel about the games
now that you've seen your Training Score?

Junie blinks. She shrugs.
"I don't think it changes anything."

Junie bites her lip.
"I'm not very good at making friends
I always seem to make mistakes. It's okay.
I don't really mind.
The other tributes have been nice to me.
Sometimes they sneak me extra bread rolls."
Her eyes flash. There is a tiny smile, if you are watching very closely.

What has impressed you most about the
Capitol since you've been here?

At this, Junie thinks hard. Her forehead creases with concentration.
"Father says, if I'm not going to say anything nice,
then I'm not to say anything at all!"

"Usually I run away from Pa, who tries
to make me go to school. I hate school. It makes
my brain hurt, and I'm always getting in trouble."

Junie pauses, considering.

"I like to play in the woods, instead."

At this, Junie laughs.
She throws her little head back, unexpectedly.

”Overly confident and definitely optimistic about my days to come! I am certain the District One team made a positive impression from the start. I’ve been told the sponsorship website crashed during the ceremony as so many people were trying to click mine and Jupiter’s name!”

”How confident do you feel about the games now that you've seen your Training Score?”

”I had hoped for better but I am always breaking personal bests…”

”What about the other tributes? Intimidating? Interesting? Irritating?”

”I have found my teammates, Circe Murdock and Sera from Six. They’re an interesting pair. I can’t say I have made any friends though, there’s no point. Everyone here is an opponent, I know who I should watch out for and who I shouldn’t worry about at all…”

”What has impressed you most about the Capitol since you've been here?”

”The training facilities are state of the art! Nothing like anything found in One! When are you going to share it all with us?! There’s so much technology that I have never seen before too. And the cars! I wish I could take a ride in the ones I see buzzing around the streets at night from the windows in my room.”

”Tell us what a typical day in your shoes is like back home. Do you work? Do you have any hobbies or secret talents?”

”Well I am a career so the standard career life…I wake up at 6am, some mornings I start with a run with my sisters. We go 5k, 10k or however far we like. Then I have breakfast and spend a few hours in the training centre. If I am not training, I am competing. But aside from the career life, I do like tinkering with the cars my dad has in the backyard, they’re just for show, they don’t go anywhere!”

”What about romance? Cute as you are, I bet there is someone back home waiting, right?”

”No! I don’t have time for that. Relationships come with too much commitment and my schedule can’t make room for one…”

”And your family. Sensitive subject, I'm sure, but... could you tell us about them?”

”Not sensitive at all, I love my family, we’re a team! I am the second daughter of four! My oldest sister is in Three, she builds racing cars for the motorsport industry here in the Capitol and One. My two other younger sisters, one is a ballet dancer and the other loves riding motorbikes! My dad and his siblings run a big motor company; you may have heard of it…My mom is a trainer at the academy I attend. And I keep being reminded about my great-great uncle Aston, I am nothing like him. I know how to win.”

”I want to know: What is it that you'll be fighting for in that arena? What is it you want to get back home to?”

”My family can’t have two losers on its tree, I want to the Maybachs to become as royal as the Le Rouxs, Frays and other big families bred from the Hunger Games! Oh and I have heard is not nice being dead…”

"Honestly, I was feelin' cold! I was just fine until they lined us up for the procession. But Honey, when them chariots started to move and I felt that infamous Capitol wind chill? Oh, I was downright shiverin!"

"How confident do you feel about the games now that you've seen your Training Score?"

"Well, I'd like to first say that I am just about as nervous as a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs! Make no mistake about that! But, to tell you the truth, I don't really think too much into the scores. The Gamemakers showed a lot of grace for me, I'll say that much."

"What about the other tributes? Intimidating? Interesting? Irritating?"

"I suppose it depends on which one you're talking about. Some of them are intimidating for sure, but a lot of them just seem... normal. You know, they kind of just remind me of folks back home to tell you the truth. I don't think I've met any I didn't like, though."

"What has impressed you most about the Capitol since you've been here?"

"Y'all are living in the future compared to where I'm from! 'Motion Sensor Faucet.' Ain't that just the most precious thing you ever heard? It scared the life out of me the first two nights I was here, though! I thought the place was haunted!"

"Tell us what a typical day in your shoes is like back home. Do you work? Do you have any hobbies or secret talents?"

"My life back in District Ten is an All-Panem dream, really. My Momma raised me right, so I devote most of my time to different Community Outreach programs! Fundraisers, Benefits, Beach Clean-Ups, as well as a two-year position on my school's cheer squad. And in my free time, I'm a highly involved member of District Ten's pageant circuit."

"What about romance? Cute as you are, I bet there is someone back home waiting, right?"

"Well, Caesar! Don't you know it's bad manners to kiss and tell?"

"And your family. Sensitive subject, I'm sure, but... could you tell us about them?"

"Sensitive? Not at all! I was raised as an only child until two years ago, when I was fourteen. Now, I have a little sister who is just about the cutest little thing you could ever lay eyes on! My Dad travels a lot for work, but he makes sure to call when he's gone and he always brings Mom and I back things he thinks we'll like from wherever he's travelling to. And then there's my Momma, who is also my best friend, really. She taught me everything I know!"

"To tell you the truth: all of it. There ain't a single thing about my life that I wouldn't want to get back to, Caesar. I have a lot of spinning plates, but that's the way I like it."

Yep. I actually married my lover in secret before I got here and it’s been very hard for me to have to leave my three adopted children and four cats back home.

Um, a little nervous! But it felt good to have Junie there. Especially in our matching outfits, those wings were.. um, a little heavy... heh, um - but we made it through okay!

How confident do you feel about the games now that you've seen your Training Score?

I'm, um, I'm feeling okay! Um, middle of the pack - it um, it makes sense for me!

What about the other tributes? Intimidating? Interesting? Irritating?

Um, they're all really nice! And, um, it's nice to meet people from other Districts!

What has impressed you most about the Capitol since you've been here?

Oh, um, the food! Um, everything - haha! But the food, um, it's really good!

Tell us what a typical day in your shoes is like back home. Do you work? Do you have any hobbies or secret talents?

Um, well, I go to school! And then I- um, well, I work in my dad's shop. We um, we sell food! Like, um, takeaways? Do you guys have those here? Like, um, we'll make pre-made food in the cabinet that people can buy upfront, or they can order and, um we make it on site. And then they can take it away! Sometimes I do um, deliveries - if people don't live too far away!

Yeah! Um, so my Mom's a teacher! She's great. Um... she also bakes! So her food goes in my Dad's shop. Oh! It's named after me, haha - JJ's! Or maybe I'm named after the shop. Haha! And my Dad cooks, um, he taught me too! He's awesome.

I steady myself as I stand behind the curtain, waiting for the imminent calling of my name. I remind myself to breathe, and I go over my strategy. After a couple years of helping my parents sell their inventions to Capitol moguls, I feel like I have a sense of the tune to their shallow entertainment. They want someone to root for. I will need to be personable, memorable, relatable. No whining about the reality of my possible imminent death, no rattling on about the projects and technologies that truly interest me. They want flair and pizzazz. They want me to wrap myself up in shiny paper and a large bow, and they'll be too focused on how pretty the gift looks to care much about what might be inside it.

I hear Caesar Flickerman introduce me. Game time. I plaster what my father calls my "business smile" onto my face; large and dazzling, but professional instead of warm. After a couple cheek kisses, Caesar and I take our seats and the questions begin.

"I must say, your District made quite the splash at the Tribute Parade. Tell us what you were feeling up there! Confident, nervous, excited?"

"I felt like I was being boiled alive." The crowd laughter encourages me to exaggerate. "Seriously! In all of that metal, and under those lights? I can't remember the last time I was that sweaty! We looked pretty cool though, so I suppose it was worth the discomfort."

"How confident do you feel about the games now that you've seen your Training Score?"

I adopt a playfully shocked expression, clearly indicating my faked ignorance to the scores. "Oh, have they revealed our scores? Sorry dear Caesar, I must've been taking a little nap at the time. Tell me, was mine any good?" Even Caesar laughs at this little performance before pushing again.

"But really Safina, your score really took me by surprise! It's not at all what I expected from this girl from District 3 sitting in front of me!"

I shoot him a wink. "Really? Well Caesar, rest assured that I am full of surprises." More laughter. I've got the audience's attention, now.

"What about the other tributes? Intimidating? Interesting? Irritating?"

"Interesting is the best word to use, that's for sure. There's so many girls this year so the odds seem pretty good that we'll have a female victor, don't you think? I would love to say I'd be proud of any of these tributes for winning the games, but that would mean I'd be dead." More laughs. I raise my hand to my face and drop to a whisper that I shout for the audience to hear. "So if I'm being honest, Caesar, I kind of hope I can beat them."

"What has impressed you most about the Capitol since you've been here?"

I'm grateful for my playful strategy to the interview. No need to really pretend to praise anything substantial. "The beds, no doubt about it! I thought my bed back home was comfortable, sure, but when I learned my bed here could massage me they had to basically pry me out for breakfast!" Some claps from the audience, relating to their own bed's novel functioning. No need to tell them all of my mother's planning that went into that design a few years back. The company was willing to pay but couldn't compromise their 'Capitol-made' reputation with giving her any credit. But I knew of her hand in it, and that's enough for me.

"Tell us what a typical day in your shoes is like back home. Do you work? Do you have any hobbies or secret talents?"

No need to fake the funny girl here; I could talk about my family for ages. "Well Caesar, the Roy's are inventors! Back home our family is well trusted to help create a lot of things for our district. Electronics, Infrastructure improvements, you name it. We even have the odd job for a company in the Capitol!" An understatement, as most of the work we get comes from the Capitol and their deep pockets. Only a handful are willing to admit their source of talent, though. I choose one of these to focus on. "In fact, have you noticed the new pneumatic tube system installed at Gallius' Grocers a few months back? You can thank my father the next time it sends your groceries right to your car! As for me, I seem to have inherited my parents' creative spark, so they've been training me to be an inventor like them."

"What about romance? Cute as you are, I bet there is someone back home waiting, right?"

There is nobody, of course. No time to go dating when my parents are throwing project after project at me. I don't say that though. Instead I give a coy little smile. "Now now Caesar, that's a secret between me and them!" I blow a sneaky little kiss to the camera, though, just to sell that I have a secret love and get the crowd roaring a bit.

"I want to know: What is it that you'll be fighting for in that arena? What is it you want to get back home to?"

"What, besides just not dying in whatever arena we face tomorrow? I'd love to get back to my family, back to inventing things again. I've got a lot of ideas in this head of mine I'd love to turn into a reality."

"I'm afraid we're almost out of time. Parting words to the crowd? The tributes? Your friends and family back home?"

"Just that the next time you're looking for something to be made, consider the Roys from District 3! The quality will be so good, you won't believe it's not Capitol!" There, one last effort to help the family out in case I don't make it out of this thing alive.

Then my time is up, Caesar reminds the crowd who I am once more as I smile and mime a curtsy with a nonexistent dress. Then I'm off the stage. The next time any of these people see me, it'll be in the arena. I just need to hope that won't be the last time.

"I never get nervous in front of a crowd. However I simply must applaud the stylists for their hard work, you cannot deny that we were the best dressed district."

How confident do you feel about the games now that you've seen your Training Score?

"I am not someone who is intimidated easily. I have a solid alliance with Portia and Sera from six. Of course, it would be silly of me to dismiss anyone too quickly, you never know what someone could be hiding. "

What has impressed you most about the Capitol since you've been here?

"The training facilities you have are rather impressive, it has been such a privilege to be able to train here for the week. I know it is an experience most career’s back at home would kill for."

Tell us what a typical day in your shoes is like back home. Do you work? Do you have any hobbies or secret talents?

"Well, my day always begins at dawn, I like to go for a swim before school…just to get the blood pumping. Then I have class at one of the best academies in the district, they perfectly time our education with our training. Afterwards we have dinner with our entire family, a very important part of our day. What can I say! I am truly blessed to have the life I was given. On weekends I often volunteer at charity events, the ocean is a cause I am very passionate about. My entire family volunteers a lot of time to helping to clean it up and handing out lunches to the homeless who live on the docks."

What about romance? Cute as you are, I bet there is someone back home waiting, right?

"Oh, well I have been seeing someone…actually he was the first person I told how I planned to volunteer. There really is not much point in keeping him a secret anymore…Adam, he believes in me. We both know we will be seeing each other again very soon."

"My family is very close and very proud of our heritage. My siblings and I are the grandchildren of district four’s very first victor. I know they must be proud of me for stepping up…watching and rooting for me back at home. This is what all of us were raised to do."

"I am fighting to prove that my family’s legacy did not stop with my grandfather. I am here to prove that not only are we capable of producing another victor, but I am going to make that crown my own. I am here to prove that us career’s have not gone soft and finally give Panem another female victor."

"To tell you the truth, Caesar, I was exhilarated, listening to those crowds cheer for us! Of course, now I also know how canned foods feel. I'm shocked our stylists they didn't dress us up in cannery." [Laughs]

How confident do you feel about the games now that you've seen your Training Score?

"I'm a little disappointed with my score. But I think once I'm out there in the arena, I'll be able to show everyone what I can do!"

What about the other tributes? Intimidating? Interesting? Irritating?

"The competition looks strong this year. There are a few people I want to watch out for, but we'll keep that between just you and me. [Winks] Remember folks, Tributes are like dogs: the dumb, ugly ones are the smart money!"

What has impressed you most about the Capitol since you've been here?

"Actually, the food! Back home we don't even have a refrigerator, but here it's like every kitchen has one. One day I'm worried about our family oil supplies, the next I have a nuclear prism heating up my food for me with just the touch of a button!"

Tell us what a typical day in your shoes is like back home. Do you work? Do you have any hobbies or secret talents?

"I'm nothing special, just your average line worker. One who's incredibly good-looking... [plays with eyebrows] ...nah, but really, I work in a factory that produces mining equipment, shoutout to District Twelve! My neighborhood back home is kind of crowded... I try to compose music in my spare time, but I have no one in my life who knows how to read sheet music! Which, you know, is sort of a problem... [laughs]

What about romance? Cute as you are, I bet there is someone back home waiting, right?

"No, there's no one. I like to think of myself as the strong, unapproachable type! When I was a bit younger, I had a slight crush on a past Victor, but we'll leave it at that for now."

And your family. Sensitive subject, I'm sure, but... could you tell us about them?

"Sure! Hi guys! [waves to the cameras] Well, I live with my mom and my dad and my grandpa and my brothers and sisters, middle-child syndrome for sure! [Laughs] Tip for people with big families: don't let them smell your fear."

I want to know: What is it that you'll be fighting for in that arena? What is it you want to get back home to?

"Well, to me, the games represent the struggle against oblivion that has always followed human beings around. What's a battle if your whole world isn't what's on the line? But the truth is, I'd settle for just hearing one of my sister Diana's corny jokes again."

"I wasn't nervous at all. I was very confident. I put my trust in the hands of my team, and I feel they did an amazing job. They really did the work. I'm just a vessel that shows off their designs to the rest of the world. It's an honor to wear it with pride."

How confident do you feel about the games now that you've seen your Training Score?

"Ya know, scores mean nothing, and I personally think that the gamemakers got mine wrong. They don't know talent when they see it. That's okay, though, they'll later learn that I'm more than what they make of me."

What about the other tributes? Intimidating? Interesting? Irritating?

"The other tributes are boring. They don't even know what they're doing. Honestly, though, I haven't spent much time with them. I'm just doing better making a name for myself, and if they want to join in on my story, then I'll say they're interesting. None of them intimidate me though."

What has impressed you most about the Capitol since you've been here?

"You have amazing weapons, and I can eat all the food and make myself super full, and then I can come and eat more."

Tell us what a typical day in your shoes is like back home. Do you work? Do you have any hobbies or secret talents?

"I wake up, I go fishing, I go to the training center, I hang out with my family, and then I sleep."

I have to say it felt nice to be celebrated up there. The breeze was nice so it wasn't too bad at all, so overall I felt good out there.

How confident do you feel about the games now that you've seen your Training Score?

I honestly think training scores are meaningless. I mean Lionel's score last year wasn't even broadcasted and he went on to win so I'm not too worried about my score.

What about the other tributes? Intimidating? Interesting? Irritating?

They seem to be alright, doesn't matter in the end though does it?

What has impressed you most about the Capitol since you've been here?

The atmosphere was been electric since I've been here. It makes me feel excited and welcomed by you all.

Tell us what a typical day in your shoes is like back home. Do you work? Do you have any hobbies or secret talents?

If I told you all my secretes they wouldn't be secret would they? I say with a smirk and laugh. Besides I think it would better if you saw for yourselves in the Arena.

No, none of the boys have managed to catch my eye back home. It was easy to get free things out of them though.

They're great I few older brothers and some younger siblings as well. I know they can't wait until I come home.

"Nervous? Caesar, please. Alright, maybe I was a little nervous. But I saw Marceline do it last year, and if she could, then I knew I could too. Plus I had Lucia at my side. The two of us? Hello? There was no way we'd look anything less than gorgeous."

"I'm happy with an Eight. Eight for Eight, right? It's been a confidence booster for sure."

"What to say... I don't want to give too much away, Caesar, but I think your viewers are being treated to a veeeery entertaining bunch this year. Everyone is very unique."

What has impressed you most about the Capitol since you've been here?

"Oh, the glamour! Definitely! It's been such a treat to experience it all. I've always wanted to see where all the stuff we export from Eight goes to. I think all these luxuries suit me, don't you?"

"You probably think I'm the industrious type, right? Like Marceline? No, I'm afraid she was the exception rather than the rule in the Jeon house. I go to school during the days and work at a bar during the night. It's perfect for me. People love tipping the pretty barmaid."

Definitely the outfits. And the way none of the buildings are crooked.

I live with my grandmother and my brothers and sisters. I do odd jobs for people, mostly gardening. My hobby is trying to get richer.
