Name: Vix Vetri
Age: 16Gender: Female
District/Area: District 7
Appearance:
Vix has a round, slightly angular face, with freckles on her cheeks leading to her nose. She has dark green eyes, and wears beaten glasses because she is shortsighted. Ethnically, she is mostly white, with some slight traces of east Asian- such as her eyes being narrower and her nose being small and round. Her lips are also on the smaller side, and she has several missing or chipped teeth. She has straight, ginger hair leading down to her midback, which she often wears down or in a single braid.
Vix stands at 5 feet and 6 inches, making her taller than average. She weighs approximately 117 pounds, giving her a BMI of 18.9. This means that she is of a healthy weight, but very close to being underweight. However, much of this weight is from her bones and muscle, meaning that she appears quite thin and scrawny. She has narrow shoulders and weak upper body strength, but her legs are larger and more fit, making her a reasonably powerful sprinter and climber. Vix prefers to wear lighter clothes, such as sleeveless tops and short bottoms, as well as boots for climbing and traversing the forest.
Personality:
Vix is a shy, timid girl, who prefers following the rules to inciting rebellion. She rarely disagrees with those in authority, and, when upset, prefers to isolate herself and wait until she calms down. However, despite her obedience, Vix can have trouble trusting people, and doesn't like to become too attached to others. She is rather loyal to the Capitol, being heavily influenced by its propaganda during her schooling.History (3rd paragraph trigger warning- mention of r*pe):
Due to Vix's reserved demeanor, she tends to prefer housework or fishing over working with lumber. Of course, she still has an understanding of woodworking, and can handle an ax decently. Vix is rather clumsy and uncoordinated, meaning that weapons like spears and throwing axes are pretty much impossible for her to use.
Although Vix doesn't think she'd enjoy killing in the Games, she feels that, if necessary, she would fully be able to. Her morals are a bit askew, and while watching the Hunger Games, she often finds herself genuinely entertained, if not a bit frightened. In addition, Vix is also one of the few Districts who actually feels that the Hunger Games is justified, and believes that it is important that the districts pay for their "atrocities" to the Capitol during the Dark Days. On a separate note, Vix loves animals, and spends much of her free time in the forest looking at birds or insects. Her favorite animals are foxes, and she often sneaks parts of her meals out to the woods to feed them.
Vix Vetri was born to Koren and Amber Vetri in a large coastal town, located on the southwestern coast of District 7. She had a relatively ordinary childhood, attending school and learning the skills required for working in her district's industry. While in school, Vix also developed a somewhat romanticized view of the Capitol, thanks to the heavy propaganda and Capitol praise in her lessons. She especially loves how clean and refined everyone from the Capitol is, seeing their contrast to the dirty, poorly-dressed district residents as a clear sign of superiority. Vix also tends to see the Capitol not as dictators, but as caretakers, who sometimes have to employ violence to help prevent the districts from returning to their savagery during the Dark Days. The only thing from the Capitol that Vix truly hates is the fence, as she doesn't understand why people running away would be a problem (since she believes that most people share her views on the Capitol), and she hates being separated from the forest and wildlife on the other side. She even got into a fight with her mother (who is even more of a loyalist than she is) over trying to scale the fence when she was 12. Vix was diagnosed with shortsightedness by one of her teachers when she was 8 years old, who also managed to get her a pair of glasses from District 2.
Ever since she was old enough, Vix has been the sole caretaker of her family's home, cooking, cleaning, and making repairs almost all day, every day. As a result, she's become quite skilled in these areas, and developed the ability to repair both wooden and metal furniture and structuring with the few primitive tools available to her, as well as becoming a somewhat prolific cook, learning how to use her scarce market-bought ingredients alongside wild fruits and mushrooms to create meals enjoyed by both her family and friends. Both her parents work full time- her father as a lumberjack and her mother in a paper mill. Of her family's 3 children, she is the only one who survived past the age of 6, meaning that she's been an only child for most of her life. Vix doesn't have many friends, but the few she does have occasionally visit to help her with her housework. On her time off, Vix enjoys fishing with her friends, climbing trees for fruit or pinecones, and playing her homemade bass in her friend's band.
When Vix was 14, she killed a man. He was older than her, tall, malnourished but still good-looking. On a sunny autumn day, Vix was taking a break from her housework to collect seashells on the shore. Suddenly, the man, who she had never seen in her life, emerged from the trees and pretended he was going along the beach looking for a spot to fish. Once he was close to her, and she had turned away, he grabbed her, restraining her arms with one hand and attempting to remove her clothes with the second. Vix didn't understand at the time, but she now knows that he was probably trying to rape her. She didn't really fight back at first, too scared to even move. however, when she felt his grip loosen slightly, she struck, freeing herself and turning to face him. She kicked his chest with all her might, knocking him into the rocks and sand and breaking a few of the attacker's bones in the process. She kicked him thrice more while he was on the ground, beating him until he bled. At this point, she could have run away. He was so badly hurt, there was no way he could've followed her. And while Vix knew this, she couldn't help but feel entitled to more. To true, satisfying revenge. And so, in the same way that the Hunger Games are supposed to make the Districts pay for wronging the Capitol, Vix was going to make this man pay for wronging her. She kicked him in the throat over and over, burying the heel of her boot into his esophagus. Eventually, he stopped struggling, and lay lifeless on the sand. As Vix dragged the body out to sea and thoroughly washed herself of his blood, she felt little, if any emotion. She certainly wasn't feeling good, or even triumphant. But at the same time, she felt no remorse, no guilt, not even any sympathy for the man's family or friends. She needed to defend herself, and she had achieved that. It was that simple. 2 years later, Vix seldom thinks about this event, and still feels no amount of guilt for what she did to him. If this kind of thing were to happen again, she wouldn't hesitate to "defend herself" in the same way.
Vix's family is far from wealthy, but they certainly aren't living in terrible poverty. Vix usually has 2 to 3 meals a day (though these are usually quite small), and her house is in decent condition. Her family is in pretty good standing with the local government, with none of them having any serious offenses in their records. Although Vix has no real interest in being in the Games, she does often think about them, and what she might do if she does end up being taken in the Reaping.
