It was hard to say “see you later to my family” to my family. I couldn’t bring myself to say goodbye, but I know that my chances aren’t that great. For as much as I learned while at the school, I’ve only managed to use that to get what i want out of men. It’s funny but watching my older brothers and their hypocrisy in ideals such as virtues and strength taught me a lot about myself and my ability to manipulate men. They like to act like women and girls are weak and fragile, being called the fairer sex.

Yet I learned that there’s an advantage to being underestimated. I learned how to move through and exist spaces that are deemed trivial. That’s where you can strike down systems and people, in places where they’re not even paying attention. With men though, they’re simple enough to where I can manipulate them in plain sight. Stroke their egos while whispering sweet nothings to them, it makes them soft and malleable. But my district partner isn’t a boy who I convince to die for me, but another girl.

And honestly I’m not sure how to get a read on her. She’s definitely been drinking, the smell of vodka permeated off of her as she walked up the steps but she laughed when her name was called out. I get the sense that she seemed almost dejected from the world. How do I shape the will of someone who doesn’t seem to care about anything? The other victors don’t even bother talking to us, they’re off doing who knows what. So I guess it’s up to us to bind in our own. I walk into the lounge car and already find her there, so I decided to reach out first.
