The bodies of the animatronic mutt’s were still warm even if their chopped-up wiring rendered them dead. I sat myself in the sand with what could have been an old-fashioned coin. A scrap of a relic found in the sand dunes the previous day. Sera had collected a few items in the hopes that they would be useful. I tried fitting in the shard of metal into one of the bolts but with little to no luck.


My hands grazed through the sand hoping to find another artifact, something that would fit. My walkie-talki, carefully laid to my right side, began blink as static voice started to come through.


“Hello…hello?”


I picked up the device recognizing Annie’s voice, the first of the district four victors to reach out. Had Adam asked her too? I wanted to believe she was doing it as part of her job as a mentor. Still, my heart raced a little faster thinking Adam could care enough to ask his cousin to reach out.

“Hey.” I paused for a second letting curiosity get the best of me. “Did he…I mean have you…is he…it doesn't matter.” backing out last minute, justifying it with an excuse that there was a better way to spend our five minutes. “Do you know how to disassemble an animatronic by any chance?” I sighed trying to figure out another way to tear the dead mutts apart
