I had thought it would be safe to assume that my little corner of the library was hidden well from the others. Between the shelves of old books with a coat of dust guarding them like a knight’s armor. A new term for me, a knight, someone with wearing a heavy full body suit out of metal. There had been a lot of new terms, new creatures and horrid nightmares hiding in the pages. If I had been any younger, I might have nightmares of some of the faces I encountered in the pages.

I knew they were not real; these were not the monsters I would have to worry about. August had told me of some of the stories the had in seven. The unknown lurking in the trees that covered his district. Both boys had helped me flip through pages, embarrassing that the oldest of the group struggled to read. Now I had a pile, I wanted to comb through on my own. Picking them off the racks and stacking on the wooden table I had carved my name into.

A library in the training center was unheard of, but I wanted to hope that the next tribute who would come would find a little bit of the ones who first sat at the table. I of feared dying another girl from eleven who never stood a chance. For a second, I would want to feel the peace knowing someone years and years after would stumble across my name.

What would my story be?

Today, the little girl from nine had found my haven. Her blond hair covering her face as she abused my pile of books as a pillow. Well, they were not exactly mine. In this moment I still felt as if I had the right to call them my own.

One of them, still laying open in her hands. On the open page was a picture of a little girl just like her. Gorgeous long hair flowing out of a tower, now in that aspect she more resembled myself. I vaguely remembered how the tale had begun, the girl had been kidnapped after her parents were caught trespassing in a witch’s garden.

An idea so absurd as magic cornsalad. If only! Maybe then district eleven would find its way out of poverty. Gently, I tried to pry the book from her hand, but it was proving to be a difficult task. Granted I hadn’t tried all that hard to preserve the girl’s sleep.

“Hey, you need to wake up” I shook her gently “That seriously could not be good for your neck” I criticized playfully the way she had been laying onto of the pile. I backed up a bit as she awakened to show that I meant no harm. The games may have not officially begun, but if I were her…I’d assume everyone bigger than me was a foe.

In the dream, Baby is home in District 9, grocery shopping with her older sisters. They have filled with the cart with everything she hates. It is so fully that Baby can't quite turn it around the corners. So she just keeps going down the same cereal aisle, even though she doesn't eat breakfast because it makes her puke. She tries running after her sisters who had piling even more boxes atop the towering cart, and Baby wants to tell them to slow down, or stop, or just to listen but her mouth is suddenly full of dry, sandy cereal O's and she is going to vomit --

“Hey, you need to wake up”

Baby comes too with one deep heave.

Instinctively she reaches out for the other tribute but Tsiuri is already out of reach. “That seriously could not be good for your neck...”

"My neck?" Baby asks, sucking in a deep breath. "No it's my stom... no, you're right," she groans, rubbing her shoulder. "It's definitely my neck." She rubs it a more and then blinks up at Tsiuri. "What time is it? Did I miss dinner?"
