Most of you have probably heard about my current story, but another came into my head, and I wanted to know which you would rather me write.
The first one, The Hand of the Plague, is about a young Firenzien noble who has pretended to be human all his life, but is actually a Magi, a race enslaved and subjugated by Humans. When three ancient Magi artifacts are stolen from the Human Church and one is used to attack the Dwarven city-state, a small group ventures out to help them, consisting of the princesses of the Humans and Elves, and their bodyguards. By coincidence (or not), the young Magi is outed anonymously after a fight in which he accidentally uses magic. His family, except for his younger sister, is killed in their beds, and he is forced to flee Firenze. He stumbles upon the group heading for the Dwarves, and is sucked into their quest. And it sort of goes from there.
A new idea that popped into my head is this. Two young siblings (either older teens or college students) were raised by their grandfather. One day, they come home to see their grandfather mortally injured and his house completely trashed. Before he dies, their grandfather gives them a key, which opens the safe in his home. Inside, they find a letter and weapons. The letter tells them that they're not actually his grandchildren. Instead, they are half-siblings, and children of Cabal, the god of choices and duality. Their mothers (both apparently virgins) are unknown, but there is a secret, fantastical society that is (almost literally) underground. Elves, dwarves, drow, mages, dragons, orcs, vampires and more are all real, as are old gods that have inspired much of the deities and myths of today.
The grandfather's letter directs them to a man who was born into the strange world that's hidden from modern view. He's supposed to help him, and swears that he will. Over the course of the story, we learn that there are forces attempting to find the two young people for various reasons. Some wish to sacrifice them to bring back the ancient gods in the flesh. Others wish to harness their power so they can live forever, and perhaps become deities themselves. Still others wish to sacrifice them to open a portal into another dimension that's akin to mainstream fantasy realms, apparently where it all came from.
I'm still thinking of names, but having started reading the Gunslinger series, I want to name the young guy MC Eddie and the older guy MC Roland. I dunno about the girl though. Caterina? Veronica? Moira?
