KATNISS EVERDEEN
Oneshot
Oneshot
Katniss stood out on the balcony, overlooking the world that was about to end. It was said by many of the Capitol officers and peacekeepers in their speeches that the world was never going to end, that it had no beginning, middle, or final breath. They had said that they were the ones in charge of life and that it would never end ... but for some people it would end. Katniss was one of those people… in a matter of minutes she was going to be executed by the Capitol because of how she had defied them in her previous Hunger Games by eating the berries … \
It was almost like Romeo and Juliet. Peeta had died because he had already been executed, saving Katniss for last so she could watch all of her friends die before her. Her mother, sister, Gale, Haymitch, even Finnick was executed. Everyone that had ever helped her or even spoken a kind word to her was already dead … in the places people called Heaven or Hell.
It wasn't like Katniss believed all of those things about Heaven and Hell. In her opinion life was just a big sack of ugly and randomness. It threw things at you that you wished you had never seen and never wanted. It threw people at you that you hated or loved and you never wanted to see again. Like Gale for instance. When she had last seen him she had loved Peeta, not him and he had kissed her, hidden in the forest. He was a liar, cheater, and stupid to be doing that. He was so stupid he hunted when the Capitol specifically said NO HUNTING. Life was many things ... many good things and many bad things.
Life was like a table. It was full of delicacies and things you hated. People sat around it, waiting for you to slip up on your manners so they could harm you. And then, right when you were being served the cake of life, the chandelier hanging above the table crashed down and murdered everyone eating the food. Poor people. You may think, but the truth is that they are the lucky ones. They are the ones that no longer have to endure pain, suffering, loss, and everything else terrible in the world. They were the luckiest. Like that one kid that seemingly always gets the teddy bear from the machine when you have tried and tried again to get it out. Like the mom that gets everything on her list when she goes to the grocery store.
Now, though, it was as if she was the only one left at the table, looking out at all of the dead bodies, some she remembered as being stupid and care free, while others she had loved and cared for. Her sister had just been served the carrots of her life, her least favorite vegetable, before she had died. Her mother had come before her in execution and she was forced to watch her die.
Peeta was being served the cake. Katniss had loved him and cared for him but then everything had been ruined when he had been executed second, right after Gale and right before her mother. All of them had been killed the same way, a bullet through the head, but Katniss figured that they had something worse, something more painful in store for her. Maybe a battering ram to her ribs, or maybe they would be merciful and just cut her head off, slowly, with a saw instead of the usual weapons. She could almost picture them slowly sawing her head off, laughing maniacally as she screamed and pleaded for them to stop with a voice identical to one that a little girl may use when she went on a Haunted House ride and thought she saw a real ghost threatening to kill her.
Katniss continued to look at the ruined world below her. She could easily see people being mugged, murdered, kidnapped, and some lucky ones completely untouched. Well ... in her mind they were the unlucky ones ... the people of the Capitol who knew nothing and then one day it would all hit them in the face and they would be mortified. Like if one of their children died of a malady, or if an evil person raped them. Many things could happen to ruin the people but Katniss's guess was that it wasn't going to happen soon if at all.
For her everything was going to end soon. She would no longer suffer from watching her friends die or from watching her mother weep in bed after midnight because of financial and emotional issues. Those days were all over. They were all dead and practically so was she. She would be dead soon, lying on the ground, breathing her last breath, uttering her last word, seeing her last glimpse of light.
Things had been different ever since her sister had been picked for the 74th Hunger Games. Katniss could only imagine what would have happened if she hadn't taken her place. Would her mother hate her? Would she be dying? Would she have loved Peeta? Good and bad things seemed to come from the most strange dilemmas. For example when a child whines about not getting candy she might later get a flat screen TV because her mother felt guilty of the candy. Things were so insane in this crazy world. Things were ruined, mixed up even twisted into something that scared even the best villains.
Katniss was still looking at the city below when she felt the push. The next thing she knew she was flying from the balcony, over a 100 foot drop, and thudded on the concrete below. She felt her blood leave her body in a flood and her mind stop working. She saw her last sign of light, breathed her last breath and then uttered her final word.
"Mom." Katniss Everdeen was dead.
