The topic of holding a Hunger Games for a group of people popped up in the c-box, and reminded me of a Camp that is starting the summer coming up. I signed up to be a counselor.
The Reaping:
Everybody signs up for the camp, and get's their name put into a ball. Then, 12 boys and 12 girls are pulled, so, 24 of the kids who signed up will go to the camp.
The Pre-Arena Stuff:
This includes interviews and chariot rides and all that stuff.
So, first you go to the camp. The camp lasts a month/two months in all. Overnight camp.
So, the Districts. Based on your size, and a small questionnaire you fill out during sign-up, you are placed in a District. Each District gets a stylist and mentor. The mentor will be one of the counselor's and the stylist is another "counselor". They actually design the costumes, and make them. Some use it as community service hours too, but basically, it's just making simple clothing. Then, we do the whooole thing with chariots, with actual horses and everything. Then it's training time, and we go to a hall on the campgrounds that has a few stations set up. You actually learn archery, sword fighting, camouflage, plants identification, knots, all that stuff. Then, you get your private session, where you show all the counselors your stuff. Get your score, and then do your interview. All that jazz. Then, it's time to go to the arena. During this whole process, your district counselor is trying to get you some sponsors. Sponsors give "money" that you can use to buy stuff through the games.
The Arena:
You are placed on plates, blindfolded, and then they remove it when everybody is set in place. In front is the Cornucopia, with all the stuff you need to survive. Now, this part is still in discussion, because we want to actually leave them in there, but parent's wouldn't pay for them to do that. But...I'll tell you what we hope to do. There will be "toy" weapons...in other words, weapons that won't hurt. Maybe a bruise at the most. There is also food, and drinks, and comfort, all that cool stuff we need to live. Gong rings, they run. Now, let's discuss the death/fight system. Everybody is given a "phone" that attaches to their arm by a band. Let's say a sword "cuts" their head off. The phone will start vibrating, meaning they need to leave the arena. Otherwise, the counselors will go in and escort them off. Damage builds up, and eventually, you can die. Damage limit is 100. However, different things can cure you, and the damage limit can be brought back down.
So, it plays on like the actual games. You are in that arena, having to live off of the food you get, and the water you get.
Let's describe what it looks like first. Each arena changes, and we have the whole year to do that. But it's always in a HUGE hall. There's a balcony up top, running all the way around the circular hall. That's where they drop the parachutes with sponsorship items. Around the hall there are camera's, and even down in the arena. Throughout the whole thing, it's been filmed. At the end, it's all compiled together, and given to each person. But back to the arena. Well actually, that's it.
So, yeah it all goes on, until the last person is left. This last person is the victor. The money they payed to be apart of it is given back, so they had a free experience, and they also get a spot next year, no matter what.
It's starting the summer coming up, just 5 minutes from my house. I'll go down in a few days and take pictures, and when the actual thing comes around, I'll take some more. It is still being discussed if it will actually happen, because the book is about killing people, but so far, it is going on. Keep ya updated.
