Appearance:

An oddity, to say the least. Ethan’s hair is a shock of mahogany red that no one is really sure from whence it came. His hair is on the longer side, hanging just past his ears and his eyebrows. The color is strange-looking and alien compared to his rough, tanned skin. He is by no means the most handsome person one might find, but he possesses his own unique attractiveness that is difficult to put a thumb on. His eyes and nose are like his mother’s- grey, cloudy eyes and a straight, wide nose (though a bump is in it now from breaking his nose), with teeth bright and straight, for a district denizen.
He stands at 6’2”, and he has broad shoulders and a strong chest. His muscles are that of a fisherman’s son, having spent most of his short life helping with the work. He has some fat on him, saved from eating plenty of the surplus catch they were able to bring home. It is necessary, in his district, because the winters were freezing and could kill a man easy as you could say the word.
Ethan also has plenty of scars on his back, chest, arms, legs, and one on his face. The prominent ones are as follows:
On his back: a large, inch thick one from his right hip to his left shoulder, caused by a snapped line and the hook dragging in the skin. It sometimes might still throb, because of how deep it was.
Chest: from the same instance as the one on his back, the hook caught him just below his left collarbone. The wound was rather shallow compared to his back, so it is much thinner and doesn’t throb.
Arms & Legs: no prominent ones
Face: he has one scar right across the edge of his jaw on the right side of his face, as if outlining it. It is thin and a bit paler than his other skin. It was just another injury on the job.

Personality:

Ethan is a warm and welcoming person with an affinity for hugging. He makes friends easily and wouldn’t hurt a fly, unless said fly was about to kill him. He will kill animals, mostly for food, but sometimes for trade, stock, and protection. People naturally drift toward him because of how joyful he can be, and how bright and optimistic he is. Rarely seen without some fraction of a smile or good vibe, people find Ethan refreshing. Seeing his personality, many are surprised by the killer’s instinct he can have. It is that instinct- and the rumors surrounding his mother and his birth- that could drive some away.
Ethan is extremely talented with a net, hook, line, spear- anything, if you can kill a fish with it, he’s got the methods down pat. Fishing is second-nature to him, and being born in District four, you might as well say swimming is, too. He thinks like the prey, moving where they will and setting his feet and hands just so, so that he can catch them. Mostly it is experience, but part of it is genes. Because of this talent, he does fairly well with land animals, as well. He may be a bit more clumsy and inexperienced with them, but he could survive if it came down to it.
Family is of utmost important to Ethan, closely followed by friends, and then by the district and nature. He comes from a large, loving family, and he knows how lucky he is. Some friends may surpass his family, but seeing how important they are to him, it can be difficult. With enough persistence, time, and the right words- well, it might just be possible.
If a person makes Ethan truly angry, it isn’t pretty. Though his patience seems limitless and he is a generally calm person, he will snap if provoked. If in a fight, he will use his strength, his height, and his temper to the best of his advantage. It can be scary- horrific, even- which is the exact reason his parents made him practice self-control and patience. One could go so far as to say it is because of his flaring temper that he is so patient. Yes, he does have moments of short, moderate anger- everyone does at some point. It is the fury you have to watch out for.
If he ever needs to think, calm down, or just feels like taking a nap, he will often do so by the ocean. It is like home to him, with the amount of time he spent there fishing, and the sun would shine warmly on his skin. To Ethan, there is no better feeling on the world. If he were asked where he’d like to die, of all places, he knows it would be by the water on a breezy, sunny day.

History:

Rumors say his mother had an affair when she got pregnant [though that is untrue], and though it was unlikely, all believed it. After all, He looked nothing at all like his father, grandparents, or siblings. The only person he even remotely resembled was his mother, and that was simply for his eyes and his nose. The reason he doesn’t resemble them is the fact they are all light chestnut haired with blue eyes, or gray in the case of his mother. His family consists of his parents, two younger brothers, and one younger sister, the youngest two being twins. They go as follows, from oldest to youngest:

The rumors persisted as Ethan, as he preferred to be called, grew. Though he pretended not to hear them, he did, and it made him furious. His mother would never do such a thing to his father! He couldn’t hide the feelings well enough, though, and so he lashed out one day. The child who had spoken of the rumor that day ended up with a broken nose and fractured wrist, both caused by Collem himself. His parents were horrified and immediately sought a solution to their son’s temperament. They brought him to the doctor, to have him checked, but it was not in the doc’s field of study. Therefore, they asked the teachers to help him learn patience at school, while they trained him at home. His parents were lucky he was a bright student, for he never told them of the persisting rumors he heard many times, learning patience well and practicing it often.
His father made Ethan and his brother Cole, two years his junior, learn how to fish from an early age. When the twins grew old enough, they would most likely have to learn, as well. Cole was always best at fixing the tools and finding bait, while Ethan was most talented at the actual fishing and hunting of the catch. They each grew strong and tanned, their skin hardened by the day’s work. With their help, their father made a greater living and their family became more comfortable. However, the winters can be hard on business, and it is those times that Ethan takes the tesserae- he forbid his brother to. He is terrified of the hunger games, as most everyone is, but he knows that he wouldn’t be the first if he ever got called. A person has to die someday, he supposes, so might as well do it with your name known to all.
At least he’s optimistic about things.
