Kay fits in well with district twelve, one might say. Her features, though soft, have a certain strength to them that only a miner's child could possess. Her body has a certain toughness only someone who has struggled can have, though she is skinny. Her gray-blue eyes are hard and her lips full, with a small, button nose interrupting it. Her face is round and her cheeks are high, introducing her somewhat large ears, covered in the dark brown hair that reaches to her chin. In a way, she resembles a mouse.

Personality:

Kay is strong and self-sufficient, not wanting others to sacrifice for her, but willing to sacrifice herself for them. She can seem cold, but it is a misinterpretation- she is actually as emotional and kind as the next person. The only difference is that she knows how to hide her emotions. Every once in a while, a person might be able to make her cry, but the only emotions that regularly come out for her are happiness and anger. She lashes out if she feels threatened, but she does so only after thinking. She is a quick thinker, after all. She helps take care of her family, often by signing up for tesserae to help her father and herself eat. She takes care of them by doing whatever she must do- whether it is hunting illegally, scratching her arms up from looking for edible plants, or scrounging. She is talented at hunting, though most certainly not a master at it, so she gathers plants she has learned are safe and keeps a small garden near her house for the days she does not bring in meat.
Every person has their negative qualities, however, and that includes Kay. Because of her confidence in her wit, she often gets frustrated if a solution eludes her. She is reluctant to receive help, though will if she sees it can benefit her, and so some may see her as ungrateful. She also can be a bit harsh with her tongue, and will feel horrible afterward. She always feels awkward apologizing, though, so it is difficult for her to do so.

History:

Kaden Hale Argall was born on the fifth of July to the poor couple of Jacob and Carin Argall. His mother, weaker from the labor and hunger, died giving birth to the girl. As they had been planning on a boy and had not prepared a name for a girl, Jacob, keeping a piece of Carin, named his daughter Kaden Hale.
Kay learned necessary skills from her father over the years, such as what plants were safe, how to hunt, different types of rocks (though how that was necessary she was unsure). He taught her as much as he could when he wasn't mining, and she was a bright student. He taught her how to think for herself and how to approach problems, such as the kinds he faced in the mines, and she listened eagerly.
When she turned twelve his father had nearly driven himself mad with worry for her. She might get chosen for the games, and he wasn't about to lose his only child. He forbid her from taking tesserae, but she did, knowing that his paycheck would not be enough to take care of the both of them. Luckily, she still hasn't been chosen by the age of fourteen. That may change, though, and she is aware of it.
