Age: 14
Gender: Male
District/Area: District 9
Appearance:
Hal is pretty tall for being fourteen, standing at 6'1". He has a large build and broad shoulders, head held high, but that doesn't mean he's overweight for a man of his height, and his stomach is average, as far as those who live in Districts go. His body is worn down with scars and dirt, just as many of others from the Districts. His skin color is a pale peach.
Hal has beautiful (but sadly usually dirty), straight, auburn-brown hair. Although his hair is straight from birth, over time, the bangs have curved to the left. His bangs go down to his nose if his hair is pulled straight down, but with the curve in it, it stays around the eyebrows. The rest of his hair isn't as curvy, and goes straight down, taking gravity's full effect, and going down to his neck.
His face isn't out-of-the-ordinary, and blends into a crowd. His eyes are brown, matching the shade of his hair, and always seem dull, yet startled. Probably better described as on edge then startled. His lips are cracked from having no care for them specifically, and simply allowing it to happen.
Hal is pretty poor, of course, so his clothes aren't quite as nice as he'd like them to be. His few outfits all seem to look the same, but what he's usually wearing is a green-brown long-sleeved shirt, and light-blue jeans that have been purposely stained to match. His shirt is pretty raggidy, and has a few holes, but blends in decently. His jeans are a tight fit, so his pants don't make sounds.
Although poor, that doesn't mean he has one outfit. Hal has a pairs of shorts that are brown, similar to his eyes and hair. They go down to his knees, and are slightly loose, but tight enough that they won't fall. He also has a few white t-shirts, although, they are all, of course, stained, in one way or another.
Personality:
Hal is quiet, and only gets into a conversation that either provokes him or is something that involves him personally. He could be defined as "violent," but you would have to get the violence started yourself, because he doesn't really care enough to start it himself. He's generally described as lazy or a slacker, but if there's something important, he'll do whatever they want him to.
Hal's likes and dislikes seem nonexistent. There's nothing he really likes or dislikes, he seems neutral with anything. He's just living his life, nothing of those sorts interfering with it. He isn't very rebellious to the capitol, but he's not such a fan, either. He's more of a leader than a follower, but is usually uninvolved in anything that would really require a leader, so he's free of the burden.
History:
Hal's background, his life as a kid, has nothing that really stands out. When he was born, his parents were caring, but poor, as usual. They looked out for him, and made sure he was never really in any danger. When he was four, his parents had another baby, a girl. But this baby died from sickness within months, leaving Hal's parents weeping. Hal was too young to even really care about his sisters' death, but his parents were devastated, and the family started to starve even more than before, but managed.
After a few months, his parents had finally moved on. Hal was five by the time they'd fully recovered from his sisters' death. And though true he didn't notice his sisters' death, because he was too young... he did notice his mothers'. She died from some illness involving her heart, that was triggered by a heart attack. Her death did really effect Hal, and made him sad for a while, and his father sad for years. His father has yet to truthfully recover from this, but did his best to keep Hal alive. Hal was now his fathers' life-- his main concern, and the only thing that really mattered to him.
At 12, Hal was entered in the reaping, as natural. His father made sure he didn't get tesserae. And that was alright, because Hal managed to survive without it, thanks to his father. But how long would that last? Not that long. Because around Hal's 14th birthday, his father fell ill to sickness. He isn't dead, but he can't work. Which leaves Hal to some hard choices, such as whether or not to consider the tesserae, and if he should work or not.
