Age: 17
Gender: Male
District/Area: District 9
Appearance:
Malachi has a tall, lean build. He is neither thin as a twig nor hefty and muscular. He has slight tones to his arms, but his legs are by far the strongest part of his body. They are long and strong, making him a swift and agile runner. He is quick on his feet and uses this ability to his advantage while on the hunt.
Malachi has a lightly tanned skin tone and does not burn too easily. His hair is a mix of light and dark shades of brown and it is cut to a medium, somewhat shaggy length. His hair does not cover his grey eyes but instead stops just above them. His bangs are shaggy and swing more to the left side of his forehead.
Not too focused on fashion, Malachi tends to wear clothing that is easy to run and hunt in. His outfits normally consist of muted and bland colors, such as dark green or brown. He finds that these colors help him in the hunt, allowing him to blend in more with the forests that thrive throughout District 9.
Personality:
Malachi is an independent individual. Although he loves social interaction with others, when it comes down to working alone or in a group, he will likely head off in his own direction and leave the others behind him to fend for themselves. He therefore lives alone in his family’s old house, which makes his only responsibility caring for himself. He is fickle and flighty and often will not commit himself to serious relationships.
Although probably not the most loyal friend one can have, Malachi, for the most part, is generally kind to both strangers and allies. He is not a violent person by nature and is more likely to take his anger our in an argument rather than a fight. He likes having fun and making others laugh, even if it means potentially embarrassing himself. He's does not get too worried over what others think of him and can be occasionally conceited in the way that he views himself.
Malachi is rather defensive of his District and his allies in it, taking great pride in his District's hunting abilities. He loves the feel of the woods and the fulfillment he believes comes after finishing a successful hunt. Malachi views himself as a good hunter and is careful to be very attentive while in the forest. It aggravates him when he is interrupted while hunting and will likely become short with the person who caused him to become unfocused on his job.
Malachi is a very confident person and makes decisions over large situations quite easily. Over small decisions, however, Malachi tends to become stumped and puzzled over which choice is the best for him to make. Once he makes up his mind over something for certain, he is not easily persuaded in changing his decision. He is stubborn and will defend his decision, even if it is not the best one he could have made in the given situation. It is difficult for Malachi to admit his faults, even if he can tell they are present.
Malachi is unsure of what to think of the Capitol and its forms of punishing the districts for rebelling against them so many years ago. Although he thinks that it seems a bit stupid to punish people for participating in crimes that they didn’t even commit, Malachi can't help but feel that as long as it is not he who is chosen as a tribute, the Hunger Games do not concern him and are only another part of life in Panem.
History:
Malachi was born as an only child to his mother and father in District 9. Four years after he was born, Malachi’s mother was severely injured in a hunting accident. She broke both her legs beyond repair after she fell out of a large tree and so her hunting career was cut short. Since Malachi’s father was a very able hunter, he became the sole earner of income and food in the home. He was the one to teach Malachi how to fend for himself in the forest, training him in the ways of the hunter.
When Malachi was ten years old his mother began to fall ill. His father speculated it was because of hidden complications due to her injured legs and so he took her to the districts physician for help. His suspicions were confirmed, but there was nothing that the physician could do for Malachi’s mother. She died when Malachi was eleven years old. At this time, Malachi could hunt fairly well and he therefore helped his father out to the best of his abilities. Still, his father quickly became exhausted and overworked. Feeling guilty for his father’s hardships, Malachi did not make his father continue to teach him hunting. Instead he followed around the other children of the districts from a distance, observing their techniques and practicing each one he saw used. As he observed the children more and more he quickly began improving his skills.
Malachi quickly became confident in his hunting abilities, especially while using a spear, and began helping his father by providing both income and food. When he was fifteen, his father and his fellow group of hunters was attacked by a bear. Although the bear was eventually slain, his father was killed by it before it could be destroyed. Malachi was distraught, but he did not let his emotions get in the way of his survival. He had survived his mother’s death, and he was now determined to survive his father’s.
Now, three years after his father’s death, Malachi lives alone in his family’s old home. It was difficult at first for him to adjust to the house without his father’s presence, but over time Malachi grew used to the independence of living alone. He does love social interactions, however, though he is glad to retreat to his quiet home once the busy day is done.
