Age: 14
Gender: Male
District/Area: District 2
Appearance:
Jonathan has large blue eyes with gold specks in them that flare brilliantly when he is either extremely happy or outraged. He also has hair that's so ember-black it looks unnatural. He crops his hair short enough so that it doesn't get in his way. Sometimes, he ties it up when he works with the potential medicines. His cheekbones are high, and his jaw looks a little protruding because of his underbite.
Abnormally tall for his age, he contrasts greatly with his twin sister, Amethyst Meridian. His limbs are long and so are his strong and thin fingers. His hands are far more than capable of handling delicate things. Jonathan is not used to much physical labor and isn't as 'buff' as other boys his age are, but he is still lean like a board. His skin is pale, but only because he doesn't come out in the sun long or often enough for it to tan. Not like he cares. He'd rather sit in a lab and tinker with his elixirs all day.
Personality:
Ever since he met the medicines, he's fallen in love with them--the little vials that hold miracle-workers, the different plants that, when processed, can work wonders, the various pills that cure horrific diseases. He likes to work with his teachers on experiments to produce new and better medication, rather than administer the medication to the people who need them. That, he says, is more his sister's territory. If he could choose any district to live in, it would probably be District 6, but District 2 would definitely be his second choice.
Other than his love of the lab, Jonathan participates in the obligatory training for the Hunger Games. He doesn't think he has much of a chance to get drawn, mainly because neither he nor his sister participate in tesserae--they have enough to eat. Even so, he's strengthened his strength, healing, and is working on his weakness, killing.
History:
Jonathan lives at home with his family. His parents, who are both experts high up in the medical profession, the profession of the people of the District, taught him much of his knowledge of the healing spells. His father works as a professor in the higher levels of education for those who wish to continue past the obligatory levels of education. His mother teaches younger children; she specializes more in medicines found in herbs and other natural resources.
With both parents out of the house for most of the day, the one person Jonathan feels he truly lives with is his twin sister, whom he calls Amy. Jonathan and Amy are as similar as the sun and the moon, even though that's a trite idea. They may be fraternal twins, but they share a link not all twins share. When Jon chose to look more into developing better medication and increasing the efficiency of producing them, Amethyst took up the other, equally important path of healing those who need help and using the medication her brother came up with. Though both are still young interns, it is recognized throughout the District by those that know the twins that the two have serious potential.
Jon himself doesn't know where to stand on the Hunger Games. He dislikes that he and others work so hard daily to come up with medicines that can be used to help people and keep them alive when the Hunger Games strikes down twenty-three of those people every year. And two of them may be from his district.
Even so, Jon is not ready to completely turn his back on the Capitol and all their ways--after all, it is they that provide for their labs and advanced equipment. Without the equipment, there would be no medical progress. And without medical progress, even more than twenty-three people [and whomever else is unfortunate enough] would be dying each year.
Jon was born in District 2, and he plans on dying in District 2. He and his family are quite well-to-do--the high position of his father and the need of the District for his mother provide for the little family of four quite well. In fact, there are times when there are excesses and the Meridians have enough to share with their neighbors.
Jon is one of the few boys who have an inkling of what they want to be when they grow up. For the children of the district, it is pretty much implied, but Jon specifically wants to work in a lab like his teachers and run a pharmacy on the side, so he can make sure his new inventions are distributed and used among the people, fulfilling their purpose and reimbursing the time with which he spent to produce them.
