Aerial Braveheart
History
When he was 6, he was forced to watch his parents be brutally murdered as he and his sister were covered around with bags of rice with a blanket on top in the small kitchen closet. He covered his little sister's eyes, her age was 4 at the time, and his were unable to look away even though his conscious screamed at him. His thoughts wandered toward his older brother who was away buying for food for the family, he thanked God that he wasn't here, until he heard the front door creak open. His older brother who was 10 had his throat slashed and thrown across the room. When this was over the rest of his house was ransacked and barely recognizable. The first thing he did was tell his sister to sit still as he left there hideaway and went to his parents. He looked down at them without much emotion, his mind already wasted by watching their brutal beatings and being finished off by being repeatedly stabbed with a knife. He stood there for a time as tears finally began falling from his eyes as he fell down near his father’s body and grabbed his shirt saying, "Please don't leave me, please don't leave US! Please... especially not her... please..."
He stayed like that for a few moments before getting up and cleaning his hands. Covering his sister’s eyes, he took her to a neighbor’s house and asked if they could take care of her. They let her in as he showed them the tragedy that had befallen his home and family. They were a sympathetic family and offered to take him in as well, but declined to offer and lived by himself... somehow. A few years later when he's older he wonders how he survived those dark days alone, wonders if those memories will ever fade, then he wonders... should I visit my sister this week or the next? Surely his experience was good... at least to an extent, death did not bother him, he learned how to fend for himself and he could hunt. Those many years ago he gave up his dreams of filling his father shoes as being an administrator at town hall. Now all his thoughts were on, make money, somehow fit fun and comfort into your life so she doesn't get worried, as this is all for her... and most important... don't die. These were his thoughts on his 10th birthday; he didn't even celebrate it, not like anyone knew it other than him. He lay at the foot of town hall, tired and thinking of how to make money next.
"Here." A girl’s voice said.
The voice startled him, knocking him out of his thoughts, causing him to jump straight up. The cupcake was barely caught before it reached the ground. He looked up to see two familiar faces, a boy and a girl. The boy had his head turned away towards the sky like he avoiding eye contact and the girl was looking straight at him. From most people he would look away and asked what they wanted, but these people were different, he looked back at her and asked, "What's this?"
"Isn’t it obvious?" She replied.
"Nope, not ringing a bell." He answered.
"Birthday..." The boy said.
"Birthday...? Oh that... Thanks, I guess." Aerial said slowly with a dull expression.
"Hey do you even remember us?" The boy asked more into the conversation than before.
"Yea, you’re that tailor's son, Denzel. You're... the baker's daughter... Arabella, you don't mind if keep on calling you Air, right?" Aerial said, repeating the way he spoke last time.
"That's fine, but come on; we have a birthday party set up for you. We invited all your friends!" Air said excitedly.
"What friends? I only know like ten people my age including you two." Aerial replied.
"That's fine I invited them all and they came, anyhow why don't you go and help them finish setting up before he comes Denzel?" Air asked.
"Sure, what are you gonna do?" Denzel asked.
"Isn't that obvious? Escort the guest of honor? Who wouldn't want to walk with a cute girl like me?" Air said jokingly.
"Whatever." Denzel said as he started jogging away.
"Right, let’s get going." Air said.
"Ugh... doesn't look like I have a choice." Aerial said.
"Yep that's the spirit!" Air joked as she began pushing him from behind in the direction of the party.
They began their walk and Air came from behind and leaned close to him, her head leaning against his shoulder.
"What are you doing?" Aerial asked.
"Isn't it obvious? Resting cause I had to push a big lug like you for half a second!" She said enthusiastically with an innocent smile.
When they reached the bakery she motioned him forward and he caught her before she opened the door.
"Can I ask a question?" Aerial asked.
"Sure, what is it?" Air replied.
"Why did you do all this for somebody like me?" Aerial questioned.
"Because... because... because we're friends!" Air ended strongly.
"I see... thanks... you know, it’s the first time someone did something for me in four years, I don't know how to act." Aerial said.
"Yo lovebirds stop flirting and get in!" Denzel yelled from the fence, him and the other eight guests were all looking at them.
"How long were you there?” Air asked.
"We saw EVERYTHING." A girl on the left of Denzel replied.
Air's face lit up like a forest fire and the door opened up as her mom opened the door and took a quick picture of Air.
"Mom!" Air screamed.
Aerial thought to himself... that's right, I'm not alone, I have them. They may be few, but their all important and good people. These were the small comforts and fun that were in his life, and he knew that he shouldn't live his life so coldly, he had people that cared.
