I can't really remember any of the characters in the actual THG series using the word 'dollars' or even using paper money, for that matter.
Honestly, there are a lot of synonyms and alternatives you can use, such as coins, currency, money, payment, reimbursement, et cetera.
Also it's not super important in the course of a roleplay. You can probably go with whatever you're comfortable using and odds are the Proper Linguistics Police will not hunt you down.
