My tear had dried and I was almost back to normal. As normal as I could possibly be, I may add. Karl Miller was dead and it was my fault. The other tribute, in which was beside me in my battle, had given the final blow but still, I had damaged the other tribute quite a bit. I walked away from the fight with no more scratches and cuts than I had before and even a new backpack to replaced the bag that was ruined from the exploding rocks. Plus, I did have some new things to keep my wire company. Now I had three empty water bottles, one iodine tablet, and some fishing line.
What good was the fishing line, exactly? Since I step into the arena, I have yet to see any water. So, cleverly played, Gamemakers. Make all the tributes die of dehydration. This will make things very entertaining for the people watching. I realize this was stupid. Water had to be nearby because, well, I thought so. Isn’t that such a bad observation? I think there is water nearby, therefore, there must be some around here. Water runs down steep places like mountains. In this case, I am upon a volcano. Still, they are about the same things except one can produce hot lava.
I thought my eyes were deceiving me when I saw stream before my eyes. Stream, of course, is a form of water vapor so there had to be water in that direction. My slow moving feet moved much more quickly as I ran toward the source of the vapor. Once I arrived at my location, I was relieved to see water. Freaking water! Before I could take one more step forward, I checked to make sure this was reality. I did think a little body was a demonic creature so seeing something that didn’t exist was sure to happen, right?
Rather than running full force into the vat of aqua, I took my index finger and my thumb and pinched the skin beneath my arm. I felt something there but I would no call it pain. Pain was having a knife pushed into one’s chest. Anyways, the sensation was real so I must not be hallucinating. Am I correct yet? I don’t think so. Isn’t pinching used to see it one was still in a dream and not to wake up from an hallucination. Whatever. I walked closer to the giant puddle and touched the surface with the palm of my hand. I was warm, obviously. Why else would there be steam? Oh, and the water was real.
I took one of the empty bottles I had received and filled it with water to the brim. I tossed the only iodine tablet I had into the water and watched it dissolve. I would only fill one bottle of water since I had no other way of purifying the liquid. If I filled the other bottles, it was more likely that I would get them mixed up and die of amoebic dynasty. After I drank some of the gloriously water, I put the bottle pack in my bag. When another two days are up, I would drink the rest. I did have a days supply in the bottle.
I felt like celebrating about my discovery. However, my constant coughing stopped me. First, I had rocks blow up in my face as well as destroy the bottom of my bag. Now, my lungs filled with gases given off by the volcano. I knew the Gamemakers wanted us dead but, it seemed, they particularly wished for my death. Why me? I do not know. I was no threat to the Capitol. I never once made a rebellious act upon any person. I am a weakling. Now, wouldn’t that make quite the show to see me get brutally murdered by a Career. If I had a sick, twisted mind, I would think so. People around Panem would cheer has as another tribute would slice my throat or watch in wonder as a fountain of blood rushes from the place my eye used to be. They would all cheer, knowing it wasn’t them that was dying.
The moment the gas entered my body, blood was coughed from my mouth. I could not help but think I deserved this. I helped kill a person. Yep. Karma is a bitch. The volcanic toxin filled my lungs and, perhaps, this will be the end for me. More of my life was draining from my body and upon my once pale hands. And here I thought life was looking up for me. Now, I know, I was only fooling myself.
