The Predicament (Chase vs. Grikey)

Alyss Evergreen

Murderous rage flooded through me. I had walked away from that pick-pocket girl unscathed, and had managed to find my bow, but she had made way with the amulet. And she was still alive. The other girl had fled. I had no idea who or where she was. But when I met her, she would pay as well.

The woods was filled with bright, golden light. The sun was just rising, sending signals to the animals resting around here to wake up. Wake up so I can drive an arrow through their tiny hearts.

I walked for a while, my attention straying. One second, I'm standing in the middle of the District 9 woods, the next I'm standing beside my father's mangled corpse. I remembered when I had gone that night and told my mother.

I had dragged my father through the door, and had called out to her. She had immediately ran to me, thinking the worst. When she had seen, she slumped on the floor and cried. She hadn't left the spot all night, calling my father's name in between hysterical sobs. Finally, we had taken him to the back yard and buried him.

The memory sent a pang through my chest. I knew, someday I would find that girl, both girls, and kill them. Even if it was the last thing I ever did.

A twig snapped, just behind me. I whirled around, finally coming to my senses. I pulled the bowstring back, and fired.

Storm-

The day had been normal. Good morning. The sun was coming up, bright, warm. There was a slight breeze. The ground was slightly damp. Storm had been hunting, but came upon an odd sight. Bear attack. On this girl and her father. The bear had killed the girls father. The girl seemed to be going crazy. Storm had tried to help her but the girl didnt get that. Now there was icy air between the two of them. To make it worse a girl had came, the pickpocket. Now the three girls didnt see on the same page.

With that Storm had begun to back off. But without warning the girl turned, the girl, who's father had been attacked, turned and pulled back an arrow. And attacked Storm. The arrow had glanced of her right thigh and created a sallow cut.

Storm staggered backwards. Out of anger and pain she glared at the girl. "Not. A. Good. Idea." She said in a raspy voice.

Storm pulled out her own sword. Raised it hight and with a odd limp ran at the girl.

I grimaced in pain. The girl had drawn out a sword and sliced open my leg. And here I was expecting her to go running. To run her down and finish her off.

Oh well. This way was more fun.

I consider my options. I could back away and pick her off with my bow and arrows, I could back away and pick her off with my throwing knives, or I could stay here and fight close up with a regular knife. I chose the latter.

I sling my bow back around my back, and reach to my belt for my knife. I unsheath it, relishing at the smooth sound it makes on the way out. This will surely be a piece of cake.

I move to her side, and bring up my blade.

I smile. I had gotten the girl back, that's for sure. She now had a terrible gash on her arm. That would make swinging her little sword just a bit hard, now wouldn't it? I backed away from her, and drew my knife up again. I was ready for anything she threw at me.

Storm-

Storm again was hit. This time her right arm. Blood gushed out, it was a deep cut. It hurt a lot. This was the arm she held her sword in. "Damn you" She shouted. Warm blood ran down Storm's arm. Storm thought quick about what weapon to use. She had a knife, bow, and her sword.

The sword was in her hand. Storm shrugged and made eye contact for just a second. Ran, with the odd limp, at the girl. She held the hilt of the sword in both hands and swung.

I felt pretty good about this fight. I mean, thinking back on the fight with the pickpocket, this girl hadn't even helped me! I had had no idea how she fought. And now that I saw, she could have helped me a lot! Well not anymore. I had damaged her sword arm and she was having to use the combined efforts of both to get a good swing at me.

I took a few steps back and nearly tripped up. I glanced down and saw a long handle... of an axe! I grabbed it, and yanked it out of the dirt. Some tree chopped must have left it out here without knowing. Well bad for them and good for me.

I glanced up at the girl. I imagined her mangled corpse laying at my feet, and smiled. That vision would be coming true all too soon for her.

I smiled ruefully at the injured girl. This was just not going well for her. I lowered the axe, now covered in her blood, and awaited her next attack.

Storm-

Slash, the next hit was deep in her left arm. 'Damn both my arms' She thought. Storm was losing a lot of blood. Blood now dripped down both of her arms. Against her pale skin she looked every.... She couldnt think of the word. She glared at the girl. Wait, Storm didnt even know the girls name. Storm new she was losing, either way she would keep fighting.

With twice the effort she geared up and ran at her again.

I let out a snarl of rage. I glared down at the knife stuck in my bicep. The wound was deep, and I was bleeding buckets. If this fight wasn't over soon, I might have just passed out. And that would not be good.

I grabbed the knife's bloody hilt, and wrenched the blade out of my skin. I stared at it. My blood covered every inch of it. I glared at the girl again, and suddenly realized this fight was pointless. It hadn't really been her fault the pickpocket had chosen the worst time imaginable to steal something valuable.

Oh well, I thought. Too late to back out now, and even if it wasn't I am no wimp.

I pocketed the bloody knife, and raised my axe again.

Storm-

I guess turing wasnt such a good idea. A big shallow but bloody cut ran down her back. Storm was injured. Way more that the other girl. They both glared at each other. "Avenging your fathers death." Storm said in a hollow tone. "Getting me because i was the one who killed your father." Storm said sarcastically. Blood ran down both both her arms and she could feel it running down her back. "WHATS THE POINT" She shouted. Storm had no idea why she had gotten herself in this fight, to late.

Storm geared up again and charged at the girl, sword held high.

I grinned at the girl. Her attack was weak compared to the ones I have been dishing out to her. There was no way she could survive all this for much longer.

My axe hung limply at my side. I was running out of energy. Repeatedly hacking at somebody with a full-size axe took a lot out of you. But somehow, I managed to lift the dreadful weapon abouve my head, and swing once more.

The axe grazed her arm again, sending a fresh shower of blood spraying everywhere. I glance down, disturbed at the amount of blood covering the blade of the axe. And to think I did that. Oh well, not really surprising, now is it. I had already killed the pickpocket. Why not the witness as well?

Storm-

More blood and more heat. The pain, it was almost unbearable. Another gash to my left arm. Blood poured down both arms. Running onto my hand where my hand was, getting the handle of the sword slick with blood. Storm looked quite devil, covered in blood. Eye's blood shot, pain on her face.

This girl was good...

Storm was losing and they both new it. Storm's vision was getting cloudy. Funny colors popped up every where. What the hell? Why is the sky...

Through the pain, Storm staggered forward. Adrenaline surged thought her veins. Raising her sword high, blood dripping down.

"Damn you"

Ouch. The girl's blade slashed into my chest, leaving a faint stinging. I grimaced. It was a terrible pain, really, but it paled in comparison to some that I have gone through before.

I glanced down at my axe. I was exhausted. Would I be able to keep this up for long? Or would I surrender, and allow the girl to chop me to peices?

Not likely.

I hefted the axe up, and swung it at her. Hard.
