If you would have asked me what the most beautiful thing is, I would have said a book. Or Abby, my little sister. Or maybe even a flower, or a tree.
But not a girl.
No, Most definitely not a girl.
So, as usual, I'm walking down the main square of District Twelve, in the middle of the Seam. With my nose in a book, also like usual. I never go anywhere without one.
Sneaking a glance out of the overhang of my jet-black hair, I take in the image of the gorgeous autumn afternoon. Leaves swirl around in mixtures of greens, reds, and yellows. A slight breeze ruffles my hair, the pages of my book. It smells of a promised rain. Looking up, I notice the sky has suddenly taken on an ugly color of gray. My favorite type of weather. It's beautiful.
Just like the girl in my line of view.
She has Seam eyes, those beautiful gray eyes that mirror today's sky. They make me feel even more out of place in this world, with my bluish-green eyes. Her hair is straight and clean-looking, something you don't often find in District 12.
Her clothes. I love them. Golden boots. Paint-splattered jeans. Well-worn shirt. I hate how the other girls dress in this District. Where is dressing well going to get you in life? Nowhere, I say. She seems to not care what others think of her, and I admire that.
No. What am I thinking? I don't base relationhips off of looks.
After gawking for a moment, I realize I dropped my book. Stooping down to pick it up, I realize it's ruined and dirty. Why, why, WHY do I always drop my books when I see a girl? Dusting off the now-crumpled book, I gaze back again toward 'her.' And she's still standing there. What is she waiting for? Or rather, who? Surely she already has a guy in her life. It would never work out between us. Why would she want someone like I?
In a fit of frustration, I throw my book. Not an uncommon sight for me to throw a tantrum, but it is surprising to find me throwing a book on the ground. I never do that. Although I do ruin furniture in the house, but never books. I care too much for them.
I looked up once more to see if 'she' saw my little incident. And found her staring right at me.
OOC: I hope that this wasn't powerplaying for you. I'm not sure how much/little you prefer.
