The snow of frigid January had began to melt away in most of the districts, but eight was one of the colder of the districts, so the snow was about ankle high in mid march. But at least today, the sun was shinning so it made it seem like it was more than thirty degrees outside to Tyler Fortis. Tyler walked through town. He wore a fluffy winter coat that was a few sizes to small and a pair of baggy jeans he had stole from his dad's drawer the night he ran away. About a year ago.
Tyler wasn't sure what he was looking for. He had already eaten today, at work and for breakfast, so there was no way he could afford to eat again. Unless he found some scraps. It often surprised people that Tyler could be so big with such a lack of nutrition, even though the fifteen year old was already over six feet tall. The growling of his stomach made him want more food. This was something he had become accustomed to by now, but this time it was worse. But if he was going to be able to buy a house soon, eating alot was not an option.
Tomorrow was a Wednesday, so a school day. Tyler went to schools on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, because even if he needed a house, school was important. He wished he could just be a normal kid, and live in a house with a bedroom. He wished that he could eat three meals a day, and be able to learn in school every day. But these things were simple wished for Tyler, since they couldn't be possible.
His hands were nearly numb, so his put them into fists and stuffed them into the pockets of his undersized jacket. This pocket was ripping near the stitches. Tyler sighed, knowing that he would have to buy a new jacket soon. Just another step away from getting that house. He really hoped he wouldn't have to wait out another long winter. Maybe he wouldn't this year.
