Humid, summer days like this didn't normally bother Jasmine, unlike her elder sister and brother. Although it was raining-what would be considered in the Fellin family as perfect weather-she couldn't bother them enough to join her short outdoor trek.
Her intentions were completely focused on finding a specific flower-one that would make a nice indigo dye-irises came to her mind first.
Finding the locations of a large mass of flowers was almost like an instinct to her. At least-she liked to pretend it was.
Jasmine tilted her head upwards to the sky and scented the air, as though she were some innocent animal. She dropped into a crouch and began to stalk forwards through the thickness of the grass which made up the border between what was their land and the other land that belonged to District 9.
After a good five minutes, her skinny legs grew tired of crawling and scraping against the sharp edges of the grass. She stood erect, brushed the grass and dirt off her shirt and continued forward, skipping without a care in the world.
"Aha!" she muttered under her breath, catching sight of the patch. Cautiously, she made sure no one had followed her to get the precious flowers for themselves and then tiptoed forwards, with all ease and silence.
They reflected in her eyes, made them seem even more blue then they were already, even with a hint of violet-she would envy someone with violet or indigo eyes, if she knew a guy.
With a smile on her face, she knelt down and picked several irises, gathering them up in a small basket woven by her mother, and then some extra in her pockets.
Quite unfortunately, she was too engulfed in her dreams and happiness to pay any attention to her surroundings until she heard a nearby snapping of a branch. Abruptly, she stood erect, dropping some of the flowers. "Hello?" she called with a snaky tone.
She stepped closer to the source. "Who's there?"
Revealing itself from the bushes, was a creature-dark gray and oddly large. It's lip was curled back to show a full row of yellowed, but certainly not blunt teeth. The eyes were like fire and it's fur stood on end. It reminded her of one time...
"I swear, it was ten feet high! And it's teeth were as large as dad's dagger!"
"Did you see a flying hedgehog in the sky as well?"
"Don't make fun of me, Lea!"
"It too preposterous to sound true, Luke! A wolf? Ten feet high? Sounds more like a giant bear to me. I don't doubt it's teeth were sharp though."
"Do you believe me, dad?"
Brutus Fellin's eyes were distantly sympathetic- the last thing he would ever do would be to break his son's spirit. "Of course I do, boy."
"See, I told you!"
Jasmine swallowed the bile rising in her throat. A wolf.
