Alyss Evergreen
She stepped away from the door. I heard her slippers pad across the wooden floor, and into her bedroom. I listened intently as her bed creaked, and she began snoring softly. I chuckled. My mother could sleep through anything.
I strode through my room, stopping at my small dresser. I pulled out the bottom drawer, and withdrew a pile of clothes. I quickly went through them untill I found just the right one. I hurriedly changed, and rushed through the hallway.
I stopped shortly at our pantry, removing my hand-crafted bow and short dagger. I slung my quiver over my shoulder and set off.
I knew what I was doing was wrong, and incredibly dangerous, but there was no other way to subside my lingering disturbance and gnawing hunger.
I was just about to set off into the woods when I spotted movement to my left. A person? At this late hour? Who's there?[/center]
The ferocious eyes stared down at me, willing me to cry out. I happily obliged. The knife was only inches away from my face, taunting me. The cruel, curved blade came closer, and closer, untill the cold metal was gently caressing my face.
It seemed to rethink its position. It suddenly flew back. I let out a sigh of releif, thankful my end was not coming so soon. I was wrong. The knife came back, full force, aimed straight at my heart. It was coming down fast. Faster. I screamed as the knife plunged into my chest. I had only a few seconds to suffer any sort of pain though, because slowly, my world was going black...
---------
I sat bolt-right in bed. I was sweating buckets and breathing as if I had just completed a hundred yard dash. I swallowed hard, my throat on fire. My mind continued to go back to that dream. The worst dream I had had in years. I walked to our small, tiled bathroom and filled a plastic cup full of tap water. I brought it to my lips and drank.
I don't know how long I stood there in that claustrophobic space, indulging myself in the delightful clear liquid, but I know I must have refilled the cup about seven times.
I jumped when I heard a soft knock on the door. I sighed in exasperation and opened the door. My mother stood there, a worried look on her face.
Are you allright Alyss? You've been in here for a while. I considered this for a moment. Was I allright? I sighed yet again. Yeah. I'm just fine mom. It seemed to rethink its position. It suddenly flew back. I let out a sigh of releif, thankful my end was not coming so soon. I was wrong. The knife came back, full force, aimed straight at my heart. It was coming down fast. Faster.
