crept across the silent ground as quiet as I could. My bow gasped tightly in my hand, a quiver full of arrows on my back, and my razor-sharp dagger on my belt. I was ready to hunt.
I approached the gate, and exhaled a sigh of releif. No getting caught today. I threw my bow over the high rungs, wincing at the light THUD! it made as it hit the forest floor. I placed my feet on the nearest openings, readied my hands, and began to climb.
That was when I heard the footsteps.
I glanced to my side and groaned. Peacekeeper. I jumped from the gate, hanging my head guiltily. I had been caught.
The Peacekeeper turned and began walking. I followed. We arrived at the Peacekeeper's house shortly after. It was nice and neat, although incredibly by the Capitol houses I had seen on the T.V. while watching the annual Hunger Games.
The Peacekeeper swung open the door, not holding it open for me. I quickly stretched out my leg, barely keeping it open with the tip of my toes. I followed him in sullenly.
He pointed to a couch in the sitting room. I sat reluctantly, knowing what was to follow. He turned away from me, and began barking orders to someone I could not see. He then turned back to me, a clear mask of dissaproval on his face. He opened his mouth to speak, but was interrupted by someone entering the room.
I knew at once who it was as their face came into view. An Avox. The people captured by the Capitol under accusations of treachery and betrayal. Their tongues were removed and they were forced to endure a lifetime as a servant. This must be the Peacekeeper's.
She set a tray on the table. Two cups of tea and a rich-looking cake. I gazed up at the Avox again. The Peacekeeper was yelling at her again. He gestured to me and left the room, leaving her to guard me.
Hello. You are?
