"Kimmt" Cotwright
Now that Kimmt Cotwright was out of his mother's house, Kimmt was forcing himself to detach from the life-style of a victor's son. It was irrational to think that he had never had a mother who had survived the Games, or had never spent a childhood within the comfy mansions of the Victor Village, but it was rational to disappear into the faces of the average District 11 citizen and work in the fields of wheat and the orchards of apple trees.[/blockquote]
It was hard work. The other workers made it look easy, bending over and plucking the cotton balls. He had broken the stems of the cotton plants more than once, stepped on a few of them, and even dropped the cotton balls. In everywhere was the possibly smartest person in District 11 making a complete and utter fool of himself.
Sighing, Kimmt stared as a cotton ball dropped from his hand. Stupid things. Stupid, stupid, stupid things. Why couldn't District 8 pick their own cotton?
Kimmt couldn't help but remember an old fable about a fox who couldn't get some grapes, and cursed the fruit. The moral of the story: it is easy to hate what cannot be obtained. Kimmt had always thought the fox a little stupid for not thinking up a plan to get the grapes, no matter how impossible it as to get them. But now, the victor's son finally understood the fox's woes.
Suddenly, a small form appeared beside. Kimmt's eyes widened as he realized who the little girl was. "Mckenna!?" Kimmt said with a laugh. He knew the twelve-year-old worked in the cotton-fields, but he hadn't expected to see her. "Fancy seeing you here!"
