Age: 17
Gender: Female
District/Area: District 1
Appearance:
Sapphire has a small, slightly delicate build. Her hair is a medium brown chocolate color, long enough to nearly reach her waist and straight as a pin. Her eyes shine the bright, clear blue that she was named after.[/blockquote]Personality:
It's not that Sapphire is short and small; in that area she is completely average. But, despite having everything in the world she could possibly want to eat, living in the wealthiest district besides the Capitol, she still looks painfully thin all the time. Afraid their child might be anorexic, her parents had taken her to a physician. But, after being pronounced healthy as a horse, it was just decided that skinniness was natural for Sapphire.
Sapphire had been given glasses for reading when she was seven, although now she has adopted the habit of wearing the small oval shaped frames all the time.
Perhaps Sapphire's most distinguishing feature of her personality is that she would much rather be curled up in a corner with a book than watch children slay each other in the Hunger Games. She doesn't despise the Capitol for creating the Games, nor does she hate the Games themselves. She just has trouble understanding why anyone found it enjoyable to watch the gruesome event, let alone cheer and enjoy it.History:
Sapphire was always quiet and soft spoken. She never refrained from thinking before acting, which has seemed to benefit her throughout life. In a way, Sapphire is the exact opposite of her sister Topaz, who loves excitement.
The area she excels in is school. While her sister plays up the drama and romance in life, surrounded by a crowd of friends, Sapphire finds herself alone and studying. But she likes it that way. She has a few close friends, and is really a nice person once you get to know her. The only problem is she doesn't know how to get to know you.
As a young child, the difference between Sapphire and her sister was not so prominent. They were both normal District One toddlers, given everything they could ever want, only a year apart in age. But as they got older, this all changed.[/blockquote]Codeword:
When Topaz started to develop a group of friends in elementary school, she made sure to include Sapphire in everything she did. But Saph didn't like the things they did. Whenever she had the opportunity she would read a book of fairy tales or something interesting, something that would whisk her away to a different world, a different time, a different place for a little while. She was the apple of every schoolteacher's eye, while her sister excelled in other areas, such as training.
Sapphire refused to train when she was old enough to begin. She didn't want to fight, and she didn't want to be in the Games. So she wasn't forced to do it. She most likely would have been if Topaz, who had agreed to it, wasn't in the family to be the training child for her. Because most important District One families considered it the height of dishonor to have none of your children in training to be a career tribute.
And life continued on for Sapphire and her family, although as she got older and entered her teen years she became more and more cautious and emotional as she faced the tough challenges of being a teenager in Panem, including the frightening Reaping once a year. But now Topaz had been chosen, and Sapphire was unsure how she would get through the painful time to come without her sister by her side.
