... When you're searching for a previous tribute's private training session in Google Docs and then find a letter that you wrote to yourself describing Games strategies more than a year ago. Apparently I forgot that I wrote the letter too, but I'd thought I'd share it. xD More of a list than a letter, but yeah. This is pre-56th Games, last modified 7/30/10.
Dear self, do not forget any of this stuff.
Red: Very important notes.
Orange: Useless information.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For the Stations:
-Do NOT pick any attacking stations. They’re pointless and they’ll barely help in fights, especially if you don’t have an alliance. (Keep in mind, however, that not having an alliance is a good thing.)
EDIT: An alliance is sufficient as long as it is a two-person alliance in which you have someone to protect your tribute in the event of a large fight. <---Try this if you have someone you can trust and/or is very very active.
-If there’s a self-defense station, pick that. It might help. <---Tori recommends this.
-But most of all, pick survival stations. They’ll help in case there’s no food in the sponsorship list. (Find out if there will be)
-Wolf Tears says: “Most effective stations? Self-defense, edible and medicinal plants, um... maybe first aid?” <------ Most useful stations.
-Swords are one of the most effective weapons if you can get your hands on one.
-Tori says: “Arrows or darts also seem to do a good deal of damage, as well as clubs”
For the Training Threads:
-Don’t even post. At all.
EDIT: If by the time that the training threads are open and you have decided that you want someone to protect your tribute (i.e only if Eve is your tribute and she’s particularly weak and you don’t want her attacking people) it may be necessary to post in the Training Threads.
-Try not to post anywhere you don’t need to. It will only attract attention to your tribute. If at all possible, instead PM someone about a possible alliance with your tribute, or speak to them in the C-box.
For Private Training Session:
-Get a low score. Purposefully.
For the Bloodbath:
-You have a LOT of money. At this point in time, you have at least 10,000. By the time you have a tribute you’ll have even more. So why fight in the Bloodbath? The system is weird- You actually have to fight to get each item. The death number is lower for the Bloodbath (30) and it’s too big a risk. Do NOT go in and fight. Just get the hell out of there and sponsor yourself.
EDIT: If you are unable to buy a weapon from the sponsoring list of items, you must make one post in the Bloodbath attacking someone else. It would be preferable if you made a deal with someone to fight them unarmed to get this item, and then have them agree with you that if you let them leave you’ll let them leave as well. A fair trade.
EDIT AGAIN: The sponsorship list will at least have a knife. Do not attack anyone in the bloodbath.
EDIT FOR A THIRD TIME: If you have a small alliance, both of you will attack the same person, preferably a weak, non-threat tribute, and then flee as quickly as possible.
-Prepare your posts beforehand. You must have an introduction post before you can leave. You must wait to post until you are sure you have plenty of computer time, because you don’t want to go making your introduction post and then disappear and then come back and your tribute is dead because you weren’t there. (If you are not one of the first to post) Post when the thread is very active otherwise you might have to leave before 3 other posts are made, and that's dangerous.
-Try to be the first to post. Everyone is required to make an introduction post, so if you’re first or near first then you cannot be attacked and you may leave right after 3 other posts are made. This goes for any mandated fights or Feasts as well.
-”Also in the interest of fairness, you must wait for at least THREE people to post after your post before you may post again; at least one of these people must not be included in your alliance, if applicable. Any breach of this will result in 8 damage points being added to your score... let's call it Gamemaker Intervention. So don't.”
For Strategy in general:
-Draw absolutely no attention to your tribute. They don’t breath, they don’t move, they don’t exist, and you’ll be ignored.
-Don’t have an alliance. If you have an alliance, it’s likely that they will draw attention to themselves and that will put a target on your tribute’s back.
EDIT: If you have a two person alliance be very sure to inform said person to not draw too much attention to their tribute and the alliance in general and remind them how important that is strategically.
-Post the minimum amount, if possible.
-Sponsor yourself, but only as much as you need at the time you need it.
EDIT: Buy anything that could be useful on the first day- it’s cheapest in the beginning.
-Post as little as possible. The fewer the posts the less likely it is your tribute will be noticed. What ACTUALLY happened:
56th---------
[li] I didn't pick any attacking stations.
[/li][li] My alliance started off as two, I swear. Then it grew to four. -_-
[/li][li] Definitely picked self-defense.
[/li][li] Didn't pick any survival stations either. xD
[/li][li] I followed Wolf Tears' advice, mostly. ^^
[/li][li] Yes, I probably do quote you and save what you say and then forget about it. -_-
[/li][li] Swords? Crowbar and spear instead.
[/li][li] Tori's advice didn't even qualify.
[/li][li] There has never been food in the sponsorship list.
Training:
[/li][li] I failed at the not drawing attention to the tribute part. Miserably.
Private session:
[/li][li] I'm pretty sure I got a 10 and didn't follow my advice. xD
Bloodbath:
[/li][li] Where did all of this money go that I was speaking of.
[/li][li] I also quote the rules. xD
[/li][li] I didn't post early in the bloodbath, I can tell you that much.
General:
[/li][li] I'm an attention-whore, so I failed. -_-
[/li][li] I had a large alliance, so I failed there too. -_-
[/li][li] I sponsored everybody in my alliance and their mother, not just myself. I failed. -_-
[/li][/ul]
And Mercury died Day 2. xD
58th---------
- To this day I haven't picked any attacking stations. xD
- My alliance was still ginormous.
- I decided against self-defense because it did squat in the 56th. -_-
- I HAD A FREAKING SWORD THIS TIME AROUND.
Training: - I posted anyways. Nobody cares.
Private training session: - I did get a low score. Purposefully.
(But mostly because I was lazy and Seah had no outstanding qualities to display)
Bloodbath: - I wish I still had 10,000.
- I screwed all of my advice and went in with the alliance and we got the wealth. -_-
General: - I don't even know.
- I still had a four person alliance, but then I left at the end of Day Two. I'm going to say that counts. xD
- I had to sponsor myself because Seah was the loser on the outside of the alliance who was denied antivenom from the wealth. xD
He didn't die Day 2 but I don't see how that happened. -_-
In conclusion: Don't take my advice because I don't even have a clue what I'm doing 95% of the time.
