Val is an average height boy, leaning a little on the taller side. He stands at about 5’10 or 5’11 depending on whom you ask. He’ll tell you the latter. He keeps is dark brown hair short and his eyes are a brighter green than even the evergreens that grow in the woods of District 7. His long lashes are the envy of many a girl in his class. This coupled with his pouty lips make him a very beautiful young man.
Unlike many other boys his age in the District, Val’s skin is smooth and fair. Growing up in the merchant class of the District, Val was never subjected to the physical labor of the many lumberjacks and woodsman. He instead carries the trade of his father who is a fine woodcarver and maker of exquisite wooden trinkets and household items for citizens of the District. Thus, while he may not be as heavily muscled and large as many other boys of the district, the constant whittling and handling of lumber for his father’s products have still left him toned and strong handed. The trade that has left him with a lean, muscular build has also left his hands and forearms calloused and badly scarred through cuts over the years.
Something odd, worthy of note about Val, is also his strange affinity the color red. He was strongly drawn to it at an early age and as he grew up, it became sort of his own personal statement. He can almost always be found wearing at least one article of red clothing. This habit of his earned him the nickname “Little Red” when he was young, and those close to him still often refer to him as such.

Being the middle child always has an odd effect on those born into this position. Val grew up under the shadow of his older sister Britta whom he admired greatly and as the scapegoat and caretaker of his younger sister. His overall demeanor can be most generally described as kind and quiet. He has always been the most soft-spoken of his family and is known for responding with mostly nods and smiles. That’s not to say he is dim or lacks opinions, he just is often too shy to share them over his louder siblings.
After the death of his older sister, Val became quieter if anything. Having always admired and envied Britta for her lighthearted and free-spirited nature, Val began to wonder just what kind of life she was searching for and where he could find it. Instead of only being the reserved child, Val became the silent dreamer.
While he is viewed as attractive by many of his peers, he’s often quickly dismissed or overlooked for the simple fact the he is so quiet. This has never really bothered Val however; his home life has always been the most important to him. Recently though, the dreams inspired by his sister’s death have been leading him further and further into the woods, and a yearning for something more has begun to burn inside of him.
[/blockquote]History:
[/blockquote]Codeword: odairThere was never anything particularly special in Val’s life until two years ago. There were no defining moments or extremely high or low times in his life. His family was of the merchant class in District 7 and lived a relatively decent life. There wasn’t the constant worry of losing his father or mother to the dangerous lumber work of the woods as so many of his classmates’ families faced. His mother tended to the shop that carried all of his father’s beautiful, wood-carved creations, and Val was trained from an early age to begin following in his father’s artisan craft.
Everything changed however when his sister was mauled and killed by a wild wolf in the woods two years ago. She had always been the “wild child” of the three Geyrian children, and had a burning free spirit. Britta did whatever she pleased. She had a bad habbit of sneaking out to the areas where the woodsman cut down the trees and it eventually led to her demise.
The death of his elder sister was absolutely devastating to Val, who loved and admired her more than anyone in his life. Second only to his sister was his Grandmother who passed away not six months later. The loss of these two strong influences in his life left Val feeling lost and for the first time in his life, alone. Suddenly the burden of being the oft-overlooked middle child became more noticeable and painful.
His father turned to drinking and his mother began a secret affair, which wasn’t so secret when Val caught her late one night. He had been sneaking to one of the spots he knew his sister once haunted and upon returning, he found his mother doing some sneaking of her own.
Suddenly the normal, un-special life of Val Geyrian was becoming quite a wreck. With his father and mother’s lives were in shambles and a younger sister who was a social butterfly, Val found himself with no one to turn to. His desperation for some sort of comfort or normalcy to return to his life had even gone as far as him contemplating volunteering for the Games in hopes of victory and wealth that could possibly restore a happiness that has now been lost to his family.
