Cecilia May is a tall, tan-skinned girl with long brown hair and green eyes. She has a fringe that sweeps to the left side of her face, but sometimes falls to the front and can get in her eyes which irritates her. She is quite pretty to look at, but if you look past the beauty in her face, you can see her that right ear is incredibly deformed, which makes it almost impossible for Cecilia to hear out of it. She also has a large forehead. Cecilia can remind you of a little dress-up doll, though she is far from it. She hates being compared to rich people, and would rather just be accepted as a “normal” person. On the other hand, she can also remind you of a type of tree creature, someone who spends all their time with nature. This is assumed because of her chestnut brown hair and leaf green eyes. And the assumption is correct. Cecilia is a nature fanatic.

Cecilia is well looked after and usually wears long white pants with a clean tank top, or a mid-length sleeved shirt on hotter days. The long pants help protect her legs from any scratches she might obtain whilst climbing trees and working. Even though she is quite tall for her age, she is also very slim. She is just on the borderline of a healthy weight and being underweight. Her height is 171 cm and she weighs 45kgs. Cecilia looks like quite a fragile girl, someone who would never try and hurt anyone, a timid or shy girl. But if you can look past her beauty, you can see the scars on her arms and legs from hours of roaming trees, see the slightest of muscles on her frail body from hauling herself from various tree branches and handling axes whilst working.

Cecilia is a fun-loving girl who likes to make the most of life and “live in the moment”. Some of the choices she makes can be a bit immature and irresponsible, which can sometimes get her into bad situations. She is also very considerate of others and is the type of person that everyone wants to be around because her positive attitude rubs off on others. Her major personality flaw is not trusting people or accepting others’ help, and even though this can sometimes be a good thing it can put her offside with people if taken the wrong way. She loves nature and can usually be found climbing trees.

Most people find her interesting because she has a kind of exotic, mysterious edge. Cecilia tries her best to hide her feelings, and puts up a kind, caring front to distract people from what she is hiding underneath. She is not the dark, depressing type of girl, she just has a lot of bad memories from her past that she tries to keep locked away in the deepest, darkest part of her soul, so she does not risk becoming unstable at the recollection of the past. Unfortunately, her secretiveness makes her interesting, and it is sometimes hard for Cecilia to avoid explaining her childhood to curious people. She’s so insecure about herself, not even her closest friends fully know about her past.

Cecilia is definitely not the strongest person, but she is an incredibly fast runner and an exceptional climber. She is brave and fearless, and likes to make a stand-out impression. She knows how to handle a small axe, but not a really big one, as they prove to be too heavy for her to handle. She does not like cutting down trees as they are like a safe sanctuary for her. She usually makes up excuses about not being able to cut down trees so that they are saved. Cecilia doesn’t really know much about weapons. The only weapon that she really knows how to use is her small axe that her father gave to her from when he was little. Even though Cecilia would never hurt a fly, the thought of being able to work with different types of weapons interests her.

Cecilia has a very large family, so it can sometimes be very crowded in their tiny house. This is part of the reason Cecilia loves nature so much – it is like a second home to her. Cecilia grew up learning about trees, which ones had edible bark, which ones were stable enough to climb up, which ones got the most money from the Capitol when they exchanged lumber. Cecilia’s whole life is about nature, she couldn’t love anything more. Once, when Cecilia was 7, she tried climbing a small tree, but lost her grip on a branch and fell down. Luckily it was only about a metre from the ground, and her dad was with her at the time. The fall scared Cecilia of climbing trees for a while, but she came around again eventually.

As stated before, Cecilia has a rather large family. There is her mother, her father, and her three older brothers who all have jobs working as lumberjacks along with their father. Her mother is a wonderful architect, working long hours to create ordinary pieces of lumber into extraordinary pieces of furniture. Because of her mother’s handiwork, Cecilia’s family sometimes gets paid a little more than most other families in the district. Even though it’s not much, it really helps, as it can sometimes be hard to fill 6 hungry mouths at once.

Even though Cecilia’s life is running quite smoothly now, it was not always like that. From as young as she can remember, she has bad memories of her three brothers and mother abusing and yelling at each other all the time. Cecilia used to lock herself in her small room to block out the fighting, but it never always completely stopped the hitting and screaming coming from the main room of the house. At the time she was only 3, and it was so hard for her to cope. Her father saw how much she was struggling, and that was when he introduced her to the large trees and glorious vegetation that District 7 has to offer. As she became more and more familiar with the trees, she would often find herself sitting amongst the lush green leaves of a tall oak tree. By the time Cecilia was 8, the fighting and abuse had stopped, and their family began co-operating in a civilised matter again, but she had spent too much of her childhood escaping her horrible family life to just forget about her safe sanctuary in the trees, so she often tended to spend long amounts of time hiding in the trees, even when she was older. She has never fully forgiven her mother and brothers for the stress that they put Cecilia and her dad through, but there are worse things in life to be worried about. Like the Hunger Games, for instance.

Cecilia has hated the Hunger Games ever since she was old enough to understand what they were. The first year that she could remember the Reaping, two of her brothers (the youngest of the three) were entered in the Games. They had both agreed to take tesserae for each family member, putting each brother at great risk. If it hadn’t been for a brave boy who volunteered in the place of her younger brother, Cecilia might only have two brothers to this day. After this incident, her family decided to make a pact to take no more tesserae. Cecilia still worries about her own Reapings that will come in the future. She hates the Games, and hates the Capitol for being so cruel about it. Whenever Cecilia’s class was forced to learn about the Capitol, she always made up some excuse about being sick or needing to get a drink. She refused to listen to such nonsense. No, nothing in life was fair, but you just had to get used to it. But Cecilia had gotten so used to living with cruel things in life that she was past the point of caring. Because of her early struggles in life, and the need to prove her worth to her three older brothers, she is a lot tougher than your average 13-year-old girl.
