Age: 15
Gender: Female
District/Area: District 9
Appearance:
Violet has long, black hair. Her hair falls around her shoulders normally, but when she gets annoyed with it, or it gets in her way, she will put it up with a red ribbon. The ribbon is just a simple red length of fabric, it's usually located around her wrist when not in her hair. Violet's eyes are a dark brown, almost a purple-ebony color. Her eyes tend to jump around from looking from item to item while she's thinking deeply. While she's thinking deeply, she may also mouth words or 'draw' in the air to figure out situations.Personality:
Violet's lips are a pale pink, but she darkens them with a berry and gelatin mixture, almost like lip gloss and lipstick combined. She wears dark purple and blue make-up, but only when she can get it. Violet isn't too tall for her age, but she is a few inches above the average. She's quite skinny and she wears modest clothes. Her skin color is a pale one, but she doesn't ever get it tanned from the sun. Violet always dresses modestly and makes sure that she isn't looking like someone who is homeless.
Violet is a calm, collected person. She likes to think things through, and often she over thinks situations to the point where she can't be slapped out of it. She's sort of like the female Rainman, in a sense. She's incredibly brilliant when it comes to creating new things, and she's excellent at scavenging for parts. She has an eye for style, but she could never afford the clothes. Sometimes she sews her own clothes and makes fabric, but she's usually too busy looking for parts.History:
Violet is lonely, she thinks that most people consider her, 'a freak', and believes it best if she not talk to anyone, but she's still lonely. She's scared of what people will think of her, or if they will make fun of her for inventing. Her assumptions tend to prove a problem, because she can never get the nerve to go talk to someone about anything. Her shyness can make her irritable at times.
Violet is like her mother, who told her that nothing was of waste, and she too invented new things. Her close connection to her mother was destroyed when she left, when Violet was twelve. Violet feels as if the earth has fallen from beneath her feet, and that she's just tumbling down a never-ending depressing slope. If Violet could connect to someone like that again, she'd feel much better about herself.
Violet also carries around a faded purple notebook with all of her inventions in it. She never goes anywhere without it and if she were to ever lose it, she'd be devastated. Her notebook was a gift from a random woman from the Capitol a couple of years back when she came for the Final Eight interviews of the families.
Violet possesses the anomalistic ability of Ingenious Design, an extreme creativity in the field of construction or invention. Someone with this ability will suddenly and inexplicably have an idea on how to build a complex device that has never been created before or determine on a whim all of the parts required to build their concepts or how to replace those parts whenever certain parts are broken or not available. One with this ability is never at a disadvantage when confronted, as they can find the most obscure but creative uses for seemingly normal, everyday objects. It is possible for this ability to simply go unnoticed in society, mistaken for simply a knack for inventing or creation. Therefore, someone with this ability may not even be aware that they possess it, simply believing that they have great skill.
Violet never really had any friends, fore all of the students thought she was a freak. So she dropped out last year, because no one ever came to talk to her. Violet usually spends her time looking for parts and supplies on the streets and in the dump.Codeword: Odair
The notebook was given to Violet a couple of years ago, when the Capitol woman asked Violet who she thought would win the games. Violet replied, 'I don't know, I'd need to sketch it out.' The woman promptly got Violet a notebook and had Violet figure out who would win. The woman never asked for her notebook back, but Violet gave her the sheet of paper with the Victor prediction. The woman laughed and crumpled up the paper, but sure enough, three days later, Heron Kimberling won.
Violet's mother was a kind woman, and she stood up for what was right. Her name was Helen. Being the outspoken person she was, she began inventing weapons for the Rebel forces, and when the minor Rebellions were over, the Peacekeepers tracked the weapons back to Helen. She was later hung in the town square, but at the final minute, she created a tool out of splinters and a bobby pin to cut the rope. Helen then ran out of the District, never to return to Violet again.
Violet never knew her father, but he apparently murdered people for money. She would never tell anyone, but Violet thinks she could have saved some of them, even though she was twelve. She feels guilty for not trying to find her father, and relives it everyday as she passes the graveyard, with the tombstone, 'Nick Tesla'. Violet never knew her father until she was twelve years old, when Nick was caught and executed in the town square. She only realized he was her father when she read the inscription on the stone, 'I love you, Helen.' Violet feels depressed because she had a parent besides her mom, and never got to meet him.
