Sometimes I fear that I might disappear
In the blur of fast forward I faulter again

Sonya Rae sat against a tree staring at nothing. This was a perch she regularly visited after school before heading off to work. It was quick here. Peaceful. She felt as if she was completely alone even if only a few meters away were a well travelled path into the apple orchards. But for the few moments she was able to sneak here she felt completely free. The air was getting colder and Sonya was dressed in her warmest coat with his retrospect wasn?t all that warm but it was enough to keep her from freezing. The sky threatened to let out rain again at any moment. Soni really hated rain it made everything muddy and wet and harder for her to make her way around. Not to mention the cold wet feeling she could never seem to shake. She didn?t care about that now she knew she had a good hour before having to do anything. Technically she didn?t have to work today but she knew she had to. Had to support her family. Yes she was a youngest of the Rae children but she wasn?t going to act like it. She was still fifteen years old that was old enough to support them. Even if her two older sisters were in a much better position to do so. After all it was no secret that Sonya was blind. Had been from the moment she was born. Yet it was all the more reason in her eyes to do what she could. She lived her life independently after all. Proving to everyone that basically she could. She could live. Beat the odds. And be her own person living her own life. Which she had been fairly successful in doing.
Sonya sat listening to the sounds around her. Mockingjays sang a soft song somewhere in the distance. A few bugs scurried across the ground. The soft buzz of the electric fence hummed in her ears. This was as close as she ever got to the edge of district 11. She never crossed the fence into the surrounding area. Never exited the district though she seemed so do everything else. Of course the difference was she never out right disobeyed the laws she only did what she had to survive. ?Click. Click? The nosy escaped her lips without a second thought. It was a technique she had been taught when she was eight years old. It used the high pitched clicking sound like a sonar pouncing off the objects around her and giving her an idea of what was out there. It only provided a blurry image of what was out there looking a lot to Sonya like a white and black sonar picture. The picture that came back to her was of a three trees about a meter and a half in front of her. The fence two feet to her left and a fallen log to her right about ten feet. She had of course memorized the area years ago when she first started coming here. She knew ever stick that covered the ground even to the over grown root that stuck out of the ground just low enough that it could easily be missed by Sonya even with her ?walking stick? but high enough that it could result in disaster for the blind teenager. She let out a sign sinking into the ground farther. She wished she could just stay here the rest of her life. Maybe even just die right here and now while she was at peace. She had no wish to die of course life was bad but not that bad. Yet things just seemed so much easier in her hide out. If only it could last.
