TELL ME THAT YOU'VE GOT EVERYTHING YOU WANT

BUT YOU DON'T GET ME, YOU DON'T GET ME
LIEBE CHANSON HAD JUST SPENT A GOOD THREE HOURS IN THE ORCHARDS, AND WAS
now bounding down the dirt path that lead to her family's house. Her legs felt like rubber beneath her, and her cheeks were pink from the oncoming wind. She ran directly into it, inwardly beating herself up over the extra hour her work had managed to consume. Each day after school, a group of teenagers would gather together and wait for their daily assignment in the fields, something that Lie personally enjoyed more than the actual schoolwork. Now that Autumn was officially amongst them, Lie could expect more often than not to be placed in the apple orchards. She was noticed as one of the more qualified for such a job amongst the teenagers, if only for her long and limber build. Flexing her fingers, she drew her bottom lip into her mouth and nibbled on it as her pace slowed, and she entered the town square.
ALTHOUGH NOT ALWAYS BUSTLING, LIE COULD ALWAYS EXPECT TO SEE AT LEAST A FEW familiar faces moving about in this common area. She had made many memories in this square, having frequented the area almost daily for her fourteen years of life. It wouldn't be acceptable for Lie to continue sprinting through the square with no legitimate emergency, so she slowed and allowed her chest to heave as she gulped in great lungfuls of the crisp fall air. Her nose tickled as the scent of a stew wafted from a nearby building, and her stomach grumbled. Closing her eyes momentarily, she imagined having just indulged herself to a heavy meal, a mental trick she had taught herself years ago to curb the constant hunger. To Lie, if her little brother and/or parents got even one mouthful more of food from her leftovers, it was worth it. She ate just enough to stay functional, and not a mouthful more, if she could help it.
HER NOSE TWITCHING, LIE CHECKED THE WATCH SHE ALWAYS WORE ON HER WRIST AND
groaned inwardly. She was almost fifteen minutes late to dinner, and she knew her mother wasn't going to be happy. Although generally relaxed and calm, her mother did have a few quirks upon which she was insistent, and punctuality was one of those quirks. Knotting her fingers in her hair, she pressed her teeth down harder into her bottom lip in thought, contemplating whether it would be better to hurry up and get home or to perhaps scrounge up some extra coins and try to bring home a loaf of bread to go with dinner. Her eyes scanned the ground, muddy and imprinted witht he footprints of the day's visitors. Sometimes, if she was lucky, Lie would find some extra pocket change that had been dropped.
SEVERAL FAMILIAR FACES HAD PASSED BY, SOME ACKNOWLEDGING THE GIRL
that appeared to have some sort of fascination with the footprints they were leaving behind. It couldn't have been too long that she had been surveying the ground before a glint of metal caught her eye. Smirking, she weaved through a small clump of people and squatted to examine her find. With no regard for cleansliness, Lie picked the coin out of the mud and wiped it off on her shirt. Reaching into her pocket, she came out with a few more bits and quickly counted them. If she was persuasive enough, she might be able to persuade a vendor to part with his day-old loaf of bread. She quickly straightened herself back up, when she felt a strong figure collide with her, knocking her back on her bottom. "Hey! Would you watch where you're-" Her wide eyes looked up and she cut her statement short as she took in the sight before her.
