So to start, it's basically just target practice. You post like normal, then insert the dice code for bow and arrow. Whoever has the least points after everyone's posted will be eliminated and so on and so on.

[/I] at it. But it wasn’t meant to be. Not only was there an extreme lack of good bows back in the district, but she lacked aim. Period. So of course, the first challenge would be archery. Of course.

Intercom crackling to life overhead, the announcer’s voice sounded excited, anxious, as she explained the rules of the game. We would all take the bow and aim for the target. Whoever had the worst shot would be eliminated at the end of the round until only one remained. Yet, the way she talked hinted that there was something else. Did they have something hidden up their sleeve? Surely they wouldn’t… harm the contestants? That would be against the rules! Right?

“Mandy.”

First. I sighed, inhaling deeply to cool my wild nerves. This would be easy. The targets looked pretty close to where I would have to stand, and the bow looked pretty… professional. Maybe the arrow would do all the work for her? But that was a lot to wish for from a competition. This was supposed to be hard. So I mounted the pedestal without complaint or voiced worry, and retrieved an arrow from the massive pile, and knocked the bow back.

Breathe.

Shoot.

Muscles twitching at the last second, the arrow flies wide, sticking itself into the padded wall behind. Disappointment overrides nerves, and hot tears sting at my eyes. I blew it. The ground beneath me begins to tilt, and I think at first it's my knees giving out. Looking down, however, I see that the pedestal holding my weight has shifted, turning almost vertical, until...

Butterflies fill my stomach, my knees nearly breaking under the effort of my body as I hit the floor, hard. The dark is almost unbearable, the pedestal righting itself once again. The announcer's voice fills the large space. "Mandy! We regret to inform you that, because you missed, you have been eliminated! You will have to wait down here for the rest of the contest. Have fun!"

Swan nervously stood, a something placed in her hand. She had no idea of where she was, and was certain to break into hysterical tears in any moment. She had never been under so much stress before. Being without her father and brother was harder than she imagined. She never knew where she was, and just when she was starting to get used to the house, they had brought her out here. She wasn't even certain of what she was supposed to do with the something in her hand, as she had never held it before. Apparently, she was supposed to hit a target with it, but when she swung it out, she hit nothing. It was maddeningly frustrating, and at the same time, she did not want to fail the very first challenge.

She tried to collect her thoughts, remembering what the voice said. She had to shoot the arrow at the target, impossible when you didn't even know which way it was. What if she accidentally hit a houseguest? The thought sent her shivering, and she tried to calm herself to listen to the small movements of the other people with her. Nikon had been right behind her, and although she hoped none of them knew that she was blind yet, she was sure that they suspected. Lifting up the bow, she placed her hand where it felt right. She went with her gut on this one, and took the arrow that was given her, and held it against the bow. It was strange, the tension that pulled back her whole arm, her shoulder muscles almost rejoicing in the effort.

She made the mistake of not looking at her target, and instead simply letting the string fly. The rush of wind passing her unwrapped eyes made her blink in surprise, as the shape twang of the bow made her take a step back. It tooks some time, at least to her ears, for a resounding thud to be heard.

The thud sent up a small gasp, somewhere from within herself. It was in reaction to the first weapon she had ever used, and she knew with a chill that it would not be her last. She hadn't liked it, the knowledge that it could just have easily been a person who had a fresh arrow in them, and almost passed the bow on with a snort of disgust before stepping off the platform, and moving aside. She had waited for the drop, but it never came, so she supposed she was safe. Hah, the girl with no eyes, safe.

So, first he talks about the competition and what it means. Then he describes what it looks like. Then he's all like, omg the feel of this bow is all weird and stuff, I've never held a bow or a weapon really. Well, unless you consider a pocket knife a true weapon, really it's just used as protection if it's needed. Selling drugs is bad. But now, there's no need for it especially cause he's dying of cancer and really has no need to get money, except to pay for his treatments. Drug money isn't enough to cover it so he's all sad and stuff. He's basically gonna die and this shot could actually change that. This whole game could.

Breathes in and breathes out. Pulls back. And-

Your eyes dart across the yard as you and your “friends” enter into the first competition. Head of Household will guarantee you safety for the week, and grant you the pleasure of selecting two heads to campaign against each other before the live vote of eviction. You smile, taking in the scene around you. There’s a bow and arrow with your name on it clear in your view. A dozen yard or so away from it is your target. You don’t know yet what it means, but you hope you’ll be good enough with the string to win your safety for the week. First queen of the castle stays with her power , you reassure yourself. It may not be the best idea to go for the first Head of Household, it may make you a threat, but that’s what you want to be. You want the power; you want people to be afraid of you. A girl like yourself, people don’t expect you to bring much game, but you’re prepared to show them wrong.

Your hostess explains the rules and you realize the severity of the situation. You’re not eliminating other players, you’re trying to be the best. There’s no strategy involved. You have to be the strongest. Hoping you can land a strong hit like that girl, Swan, you pull back on your string and shoot. Rowan Duncan will not allow herself to fail.
