[/size]Another night all alone in the ever falling red sands of the arena. After another long day of solitude, Julian hoped that today would bring at least some assemblage of a confrontation. He was not going to get out of these Games by just wandering around and happening to be the last remaining tribute. In fact, if he didn’t act soon, who knew how long these Games would go on. As he watched the anthem the night prior, he cursed to himself as he realized no tribute had fallen that day. No closer to freedom, to victory, to anything other than this loneliness that was consuming every fiber of his being.
In the desolation of the arena, he was trapped inside his own mind. His only company were the tormenting memories of his lost love and the numbness that had filled the void Midas left. With nothing to distract him, each day in the arena led him one day closer to losing the war he raged against his locked up emotions. Constantly having to remind himself not to feel, not to care for the fallen…. Not to care that he stole Eliana Ledessa’s life, not to care that he watched her take Liliana’s… What if they were someone’s love? What if killing them would lead to the creation of more vengeful monsters like himself? No. He alone had to suffer this punishment. No one else deserved this pain, but he knew he did.
Wandering through the sands, towards his next tower destination, Julian used his iodine table to purify one of his water jugs. Waiting for what seemed an eternity for the tablet to take effect, he quenched his thirst and his dry lips. Once satiated, he locked eyes on the rising glass tower before him. He needed food, and he needed it soon. He was not about to be taken out by starvation. He laughed to himself at the thought. His mother Pashmina always fussed over how little he ate…When you die of starvation in the arena, don’t expect me to feel sorry for you!
Of course, that was her own odd way of being concerned. She meant well, and he knew it. Midas was right about the Bryze’s though… each one sucked at displaying any form of affection. Julian shook his head vigorously to remove the thought of Midas from his mind, causing him to topple into the sand. His hunger left him lightheaded from moving so quickly.
Wiping the sand from his face, Julian picked himself up. His icy blue eyes were now gray and weary, but his will to live was kicking in again as it had in the bloodbath. He spat red sand from his mouth and trudged onward with his array of bladed weapons, preparing for his next kill. Seven tributes still stood in his way of leaving this hell, and by the end of the day, he hoped there would be at least one less.
[Julian purifies and drinks water and then flees the sand.]
