Back in the oh so familiar sands, Julian settled himself down for a moment to dine on his prey. The pygmie cattle had been a small blessing from the gamemakers in his eyes, and the kill had reinvigorated him. Carefully he cut into the creature to find the meat as his father had once taught him to do. This had been one of his least favorite training activities, but he couldn’t deny how handy it was now.
As he cut off a piece of the fresh meat and brought it to his lip, his stomach heaved. The boy was used to the rich food of the Capitol that was so often served in his home in Victor’s Village. After not eating for several days and bringing such an anomaly to his lips, he couldn’t help but feel even queasier. He was not going to let this go to waste though, so he stomached the disgusting smell and the nauseating texture. He got down as much as he could bare then set aside the rest for later, taking off his bandana and wrapping it in there.
He took a deep breathe after sipping on the last of his purified water bottle. He had one more filled jug that should… no would last him to the end of these Games. They shouldn’t be here but a few more days right? Well, the way Julian planned it they certainly shouldn’t… Eight tributes remained, but if all went well, he would see new faces shine before him tonight in the sky as the anthem blared throughout the arena.
Eliana’s face flashed in the sky in his mind’s eye. He quickly rubbed his eyes to make sure it was an illusion. In all the solitude it was becoming harder and harder to differ fantasy from reality. He could have sworn he saw Midas walking in the sands in the wee hours of this morning when drowsiness ached throughout his body. He took in another deep breathe and stood up.
Alright, Julian, don’t lose it… seven tributes to go… kill them fast so we can get out of here… we? I mean you… or is it I? Julian’s eyes grew wide and he shook his head vigorously. I have got to get out of here…
