SUZANNE LORENSE
Age: 17
Gender: Female
District/Area: District 7
Appearance:
The first thing anyone notices about Suzanne is her hands. Why are they not blistered and worn, from hard work breaking logs and smoothing planks? It is the norm in District 7 to have hands as rough as the sandpaper that so often fills them. However, Suzanne’s hands, like the rest of her skin, are relatively unmarked, with the occasional puckered scar or freckle. Nonetheless, she has the built of an axe-wielding worker. Standing at 5’7”, an average height for her family, she has tough arm and back muscles that visually conflict with her stereotypically girly frame. Years of carrying sacks of sawdust, back when she used to work instead of spending all her time in the woods, have toughened her, and she can handle a reasonable amount of weight.
Suzanne’s hair is like that of all her family: blonde, curly and utterly untameable. Her blue-green eyes are different though, more like those of a District Four fisherman than a lumberjack. Her round, babylike face is unblemished, except the multiple scratches from falling off branches in the woods and the dusting of almost invisible freckles on her cheeks. Suzanne is often just happy that she fits in, not too beautiful or too unattractive, with just the right amount of attention for it.
[/blockquote]Personality:
Suzanne’s happy go lucky attitude that she exhibits at school changes when she is outside the grounds. The poverty of her family leads her to steal from others who wander off into the woods; her woods. Like a territorial predator, her lack of a conscience means she doesn’t feel ‘attacking’ anyone who trespasses into her private glades is morally wrong. It was their fault for being here in the first place![/blockquote]History:
However, these feelings are only inwards, and she tends to be friendly to people who are friendly to her. She has no suspicions and trusts people just the right amount. Just, don’t get her angry: Suzanne knows how to stand up for herself in the fight. That is something the rest Lorense family clan takes great pride in. They are thought of as an alpha group, they are respected and admired. And that is where Suzanne differs.
Why should someone take pride in having people force a smile to her in the street? If she doesn’t like someone, Suzanne will happily tell them so. To her, that is more honourable than pretending someone is her best friend, whether it be out of fear or not. Honour of this sort is very important to Suzanne, which is why trespassers on her neck of the woods, literally, must be dealt with accordingly. The busy streets of District Seven are not desirable to Suzanne. She does not hate people, she just prefers to be somewhere where no one will bother her with false compliments.
On the whole, Suzanne’s history is not interesting. No abuse, thankfully, no freak earthquakes or runaways. No one eloped, no one was murdered; the Lorense and Tread families are perfectly, beautifully, normal.Codeword: Odair
The Lorenses’ name got known through Suzanne’s grandfather. As the most efficient logger in the District, he quickly made his way up the ranks of work. Soon, he was at the head of many sections of the District’s lumber business. He successfully pulled the workers through disasters like fire which destroyed whole areas of tree life, brittle winters that rotted the trees entirely and even, finally, the Strike, when Suzanne’s father was a boy of 12. Such a tremendous success, crushing the workforce that refused to cooperate before they could taint the name of the District and get Peacekeepers involved.
After Suzanne’s grandfather died, and was awarded post-mortem for his contributions to the industry of District Seven, Suzanne’s father, who was newlywed to a pregnant Yosafina, took his father’s place. From their marriage, the family expanded quickly. With three older siblings, boy, girl, boy in that order, by the time Suzanne was born, money was already becoming a problem. Even as a high name in the lumber industry, Mitchil Lorense was not paid nearly enough to sustain this family. Food was often scarce. So Suzanne spent a lot of time away from the family, sometimes staying in the woods for days at a time, just foraging. It made it easier on her mother, one less mouth to feed at home. And that was how it went on.
Suzanne is satisfied with her life, and her history. No one can change her family and all her family mean the world to her.
