Okay, before I start, I have already started this on a writing site, and so I'm just going to copy and paste it. I only have Chapter 1 done so far, though.
Introduction:
After things settled down, the great leader died of old age. But who took over after him? Well, there was somebody, but her mysteriously died as well. So left in charge is his evil brother, Titus. And Titus liked the Hunger Games. So, things have gone back to the old days. But something has changed. In order to keep things at peace, the Capitol will offer up one child, male or female, to present themselves in the Hunger Games. This child is not aloud to have sponsors, or get any parachutes. Things are usually stacked against them. They are usually the first ones to die, having no training or instinct what-so-ever.
But this time feels different. This time, Aloe Misty is going into the Arena. And she doesn't plan to lose. She plans to win.
Chapter 1:
Aloe Misty Baxwoll trudged into the nicely built stadium with her mother, Grey Baxwoll, her father, Cordo Baxwoll, and her little sister, Sagitarria Baxwoll. Aloe Misty was wearing an elegant purple dress that came up just above her knees and swooped up to show more of her thigh. It was strapless but had two long strands of white ribbon flowing down from around the back of her neck, reaching down to her knees. She had bright silver shoes with small white heels. Aloe Misty turned her head around and looked down at her little sister, who was only 7 years old at the time and would have no chance of being picked at the 'reaping'.
"What Aloe?" Sagitarria said, slightly cocking her head to the side, making her black and purple curls bounce spontainously.
"Nothing. i'm just a bit worried." Aloe replied. "This is the third time that we will have to choose a boy or a girl. I don't want to be picked." she said.
Sagitarria raised a tiny hand and tugged on her sister's bright blonde and pink hair. "You won't get picked." her sister said with new seriousness. "There are lots of people here! What are the chances you are going to be picked?" she jumped and turned away as their mother jabbed her in the side and put a finger to her lips.
Aloe looked away from her sister. Being only 7, she obviously wouldn't get picked. and her sister was right. There were millions of people in the Capitol! And those were just the girls. It was a girl OR a boy. That increased her chances to almost zero! She relaxed a bit, shoulders slacking. She took a deep breathe and made her way up the stairs, following her family to their assigned seats.
As Aloe sat down, Orchid, the announcer for the Capitol, made her way onto the stage. She was wearing a pink dress that almost represented a princess gown; It had a poofy lace at the top of the dress, with small straps coming down from her shoulders. The dress was tightly fitted in the beginning, as if trying to resemble a pink corset around the fluffy layer of lacing. It swept all the way down and covered up her feet. She had a sparkling pink and yellow necklace, and Aloe suddenly found herself wishing for that same necklace to be around her neck. She reached up and touched the bare skin where the necklace would have been.
"Welcome, Capitol citizens." Orchid started off. "Today, we will be announcing the tribute of our Capitol to fight to the death in the Hunger Games." she said.
Fight to the death? Aloe thought We hardly ever stand a chance at winning! We get blown up first thing!
Orchid continued blabbering on about the Districts, the Hunger Games history, and stuff about the Capitol. Then she cleared her throat and walked over to the glass jar that held all the boy and girl names, aged from 12-18. She raised her hand in the air as if to add tension that she was about to do so. Everybody in the stands seemed to hold their breath. Aloe focosed on her breathing, and tried not to think about it. She hoped it was her enemy, Nimmo Selkirk.
Orchid cleared her throat again, and Aloe looked up. She had a small strip of paper in her hand. She ripped open the black bar holding it together, and slowly opened the strip. She moved closer to the microphone and looked into the audience.
"Aloe Misty Baxwoll." she said, the name echoing through the stadium. Aloe froze.
Time seemed to slow down. Her beathing maxed up in speed, and she looked around in shock. Her? Was that really her name? Or had she just heard it because she was so paranoid about being chosen? Was it a prank? Where they all going to laugh and say the real name?
Sagitarria cried out and jumped out of her seat, moving past her parents and jumping onto Aloe's lap, wrapping her tiny arms around her older sister's neck. She cried onto her elegant purple dress, making it turn a blue shade.
Two Peacekeepers made their way up the stairs. They seized Sagitarria and pushed her over to their parents. Their father stood up and grabbed Sagitarria, holding her back. Her sister was weeping, holding out a tiny hand towards her sister.
Aloe looked over at her sister, brows scrunched together. The Peacekeepers took hold of her shoulders and hauled her up, then grabbed her arm and started pulling her out to the stairs.
Aloe snapped out of her trance. She had to choose- Fight her way out, or go along with it and try to survive. She looked back at her sister.
"I will win for you, Sagitarria!" she shouted. "No matter what they throw at me, I will survive!"
The Peacekeepers turned her around and hurried down the stairs. Once at the bottom, they pushed her towards the stairs, where Aloe climbed up three steps and Orchid roughly grabbed her arm, pulling her towards the center.
"Well then, here we have her! Aloe Misty, tribute of the Capitol! Applaud for her, shall we?" Orchid applauded, and so did many other citizens. Only her friends, family, and even aquantinces, stayed quiet.
Aloe was turned around and pushed through the big doors, listening as they closed behind her. She was guided down a hallway to a small room, burning with Mahogany.
"Stay in here. Your family and best friend are aloud to say goodbye, but nobody else." she said, then exited the room.
Aloe waited patiently by the window, watching as citezens filed out of the stadium. Nimmo stopped in front of her window and made a slashing motion with his hand across his neck, then pointed at her.
Your dead.
Aloe leaned away from the window, then came back, raising her middle finger to the window, and then pointing at him. He bowed and moved on.
The door opened and Aloe spun around, Her little sister running in and wrapping her arms around her.
"Aloe, please make it, atleast till the end." she said threw tears. Aloe hugged her sister back and nodded.
"I promised you I would, okay?" she said, and leaned back, smiling.
She stood up and looked at her parents. Her father had a hard look on his face, brows furred, frowning slightly. Her mother had hands over her mouth, and a few tears ran down her cheek. Aloe was never close to her father, and was more close to her mother, but she was closest with her little sister. She walked past her dad and threw her arms around her mother.
"I promise, I won't be like those other kids." she said. "Okay mom. I'm different. I will survive." her mother sniffled and looked into her daughters eyes.
"Okay, sweetie." she said with a sad smile. Aloe could tell she didn't believe her.
Her father cleared his throat and looked at his wife. "You know, we could always just make another one to replace her." he said.
Aloe spun around and slapped her father across the face, leaving a bright red mark. His face became infuriated and he grabbed onto his daughters shoulders roughly, Hauling her over to the wall, where he pushed her tightly up against it. He looked ready to strangle her, and pretty much was when the Peacekeepers ran inside after her mother and sister screamed.
They seized her father and hauled him out of the room, then motioned for her mother and sister to follow. Her mother ducked her head and went out, holding her sisters hand, who looked frightened, both for her sister and for herself.
Aloe slumped to the ground and wrapped her arms around her knees. Her arm was bruised from the roughness of the Peacekeepers, and her collarbone was sure to start bruising soon from her fathers strength.
What did I just do? She thought Now he's going to take everyhting out on my sister and my mother. She scowled. I hate how the Districts think we have it Oh so easy. They think we are spoiled little brats. Sure, a lot of us are, like Nimmo, but some of us arn't like me and my sister. And my best friend, Volumnia. My father beats us when he gets angry. He takes it out on us. I get bullied in school. They may be starving, but we have it hard in different ways. She thought, bitterly.
She jumped when somebody slunk down beside her. Her head shot up to see Volumnia sitting down beside her. Her best friend reached out and touched her knee.
"I heard what happened. News travels fast. I guess it's true, too, since your curled up in a ball with a giant purple bruise on your neck." she said.
"That's my collarbone." Aloe replied dryly.
Volumnia snuffled a laugh. "Okay, I get it. Your collar bone, or whatever. But listen, I know people are saying everything is against you, but when you told your sister that you would beat everything they threw at you, I believe you. Your smart, and you get pretty nasty when your anrgry. Plus, your totally hot, so your bound to get some of the male District Tributes to go on your side. And it's usually the Careers. just watch your back, okay?" she said.
Aloe did a shaky dee breath. "Volumnia, please leave." she said.
Volumnia looked confused. "Why?"
"Because you just told me that the boys that are going to try to kill me are hot! For all I know, you are going to be rooting them on back home! It's what you do every year, so why not this year?" she snapped.
Volumnia looked taken aback. "Fine! Maybe I will! And Maybe I'll just be their sponsor, too. Go kill Aloe. Love, Volumnia." she scowled and stood up, charging out of the room.
Aloe was deeply shaken. What had she just done... again? She started to cry again when a Peacekeeper came in and lifted her up. He gave her a big hug, and Aloe looked up in surprise.
Aloe gasped. "Whytt!" she whispered. He had lifted the black viser that covered his face and was smiling down at her.
"Hey, Aloe." he said. Aloe couldn't believe her eyes. Her ex boyfriend had joined the Peacekeepers instead of her. After he told her why he had really done it, she had forgiven him, but they were never aloud to be together. He had to focus on his job.
"Whytt, I'm so scared." she said. She sniffled and gave him a hug. He immediantly pushed her away. She looked at him with confusion, but his visor was up. He grabbed her gently by the arm but strained his muscles so it looked like he was holding her roughly. He turned and Aloe noticed that another Peacekeeper was eyeing them suspitiously.
Whytt took her and lead her down a narrow hall, in the opposite direction she had come. It pulled up into a big room that had food and her stylists. Whytt looked down at her.
"This is the room your going to be staying in until all the other Tributes from the Districts arrive. The stylists are going to prepare you for the chariot ride. You will be the first to go. You will get raining just like the other tributes, and you will be interviewed after that, just like them. You will be treated as a tribute from now on." he said. "Goodbye, Aloe. And may the odds be in your favour." he said that without mock, nodding to her before closing the door.
Aloe turned around and stared at her stylists. So it had begun. She was the Tribute from the Capitol.
