[/blockquote][/justify]Indrazane Maynard was like a child in many ways.
One couldn’t really see it from the outside. I mean, sure; those bright blue eyes had a defined flare of curiosity, her voice did seem to have a bit of a light-hearted tone to it, and she seemed to fidget quite a bit more than anyone else of her age. Still, she was tall and lean, with wavy blond hair and a young face that screamed “teenager.” She was obviously no less than seventeen just by appearance.
Nevertheless, Indrazane was running a race that she had no chance of winning. Truth was, Indrazane just wasn’t fast enough. She couldn’t catch up to the pace of everyone else. She wanted to, but she just couldn’t push herself any farther. Was she really meant to? Maybe that was it: maybe she was supposed to fall back. Maybe she was only made to set the minimum bar-line, to emphasize the strengths of everyone else, to give them something to laugh at.
Blinded by ignorance, Indrazane had built her life around a fantasy. And now here she was, forced to face reality. A job: that's what she needed.
Indrazane was standing in front of a factory, the one her brother had recommended to her. He said he had gotten her a job there. Standing at the entrance, Indrazane had to admit, she was frightened. She knew she would fail; she always failed. She wasn't fit for this District.
Debating on whether or not to go in, Indrazane sighed. Then, she took a run for it, full-speed, too afraid to face her fears.
