Zephyr is a smaller boy, around 5’ 5” with dark black, messy hair about medium length. He doesn’t weigh much, around 120 lbs, and has very little muscle on his body due to lack of food. He has an average oval face, though his green eyes do appear to sink into his skull a little. Zephyr is extremely pale as a result of not seeing the sun very much, as he is either in school, at home, or in the factories. Zephyr is very average looking boy, nothing obviously threatening about him.Personality:
Though Zephyr has no defining physical characteristics, he has the quickness he inherited from his parents. He may not be able to stand up to anyone bigger than him, but his quick senses help him see solutions no one else can. Being so small, Zephyr is occasionally called on to move through tighter parts of the machines in the factories and refineries not many people can see. From this he’s also gained a great footing on uneven, or even moving surfaces. He does though, suffer from minor twitches.
Zephyr hates being looked down on, especially by those bigger than him. Most people that know him in District 9 see his intellect, his ability to see problems before they arise, and this is one of the few things he prides himself in. As a result, Zeph tends to get paranoid in stressful situations, seeing everything that could possibly happen. Another trait Zephyr inherited from his parents was the ability to be a hunter. He has no hunting experience, but he knows where to look.History:
In public, Zephyr is practically silent. He doesn’t usually speak unless spoken to or a positive light is put upon him. In private, Zephyr opens up, especially among people he knows. Zeph has a child-like innocence around people he trusts. He loves to talk about games and the world outside the gates of the district his parents tell him every night. While he would love to live there, he knows he doesn’t have the physical ability to live on his own without training and experience. Zephyr has an undying loyalty to those close to him, and tends to be less concerned and much more carefree around those people, which he enjoys significantly. For his few friends, Zephyr would be willing to give his life to help them.
For years, Zeph’s parents have tried to teach him to be a hunter, but nothing ever comes from it. He does try to become stronger, but the lack of food in his diet makes growing muscle nearly impossible. But this does mean he understand how to use most weapons common to hunters (bows, knives, traps, swords even), but doesn’t really see the point in knowing how since hunting is strictly forbidden, even to his parents who used to hunt full time. Zephyr usually tries to stay out of physical conflicts for the most part anyway, trusting his mind to be the strongest weapon.
Both of Zephyr’s parents used to be full-time hunters for District 9 until hunting was banned. They were then moved to work in the factories, but every once and a while, they would manage to sneak out into the forests to hunt. Zephyr then grew up hearing stories of the thrills of hunting, what to look for in tracking game, and setting traps. Zephyr has very few friends, and one of his closest friends died a few years ago, crushed by a large gear in the factories. This caused Zephyr to fall ill for a year, losing any sort of tan and muscle he had. It wasn’t until one day the one of the factory’s main machine’s weren’t working. His father came home early that day, explaining in frustration the problem, and how the Capital was upset. Merely from the description, Zephyr was able to understand the problem (which was a hijacking by a worker, a wrench in the gears) and was able to say what to do. When the hole to fit through was too small, Zephyr climbed in and fixed the problem. The attention he gained and the sense of pride was enough to pull him from his depression and get himself better.
In the most recent time, Zephyr has been curious to see what lies beyond his district, out into the woods. He stares for hours at a time at the gates surrounding the district, hoping one day to make it out and become a great hunter like his parents were. He has been training since, trying to build muscle, and planning some way to just step outside of the district, just once. Maybe even find other people like him, that want to explore, not just sit in gray factories their whole lives.
