Appearance:

Daniel, despite his way of life, is a very happy-looking kid. His brown (Just brown. Not dark brown, not light brown. Brown.) hair is wavy and while smooth at the top, sticks out in many directions at the bottom. His eyebrows, of the same color, are obscured by his bangs. However, Daniel's bright, greyish-green eyes are easily visible. He doesn't like his his hair because, being so thick, it has a tendency to get and stay dirty more easily. One thing Daniel does like about his hair is that it's length masks the fact that his ears are too big for him, and always have been.

His eyes are deep set and a bit narrow, and his eyelashes are long and thin, not quite feminine. Daniel's nose is very average, at sits perfectly in the middle of his face. He has a splattering of freckles across his nose and cheeks that make him look more like a carefree little boy and less like his sister's keeper. Daniel had pink, full lips, and a crooked smile. One of his top front teeth is longer than the other.

Daniel is at the age where his voice cracks, and it embarrasses the hell out of him, causing his entire face to turn red. His face also goes red when people are mean to his sister, but this time with anger.

Daniel is small, about 5'1, and thin, but he doesn't mind because most people in the District are as well.

Daniel has a long scar on his left forearm. He doesn't know how he got it. The people at the community home insist that he had it when he arrived. Daniel has pale skin, and he doesn't tan, even when he spends time outside.

Usually, Daniel wears whatever he can scavenge, composing of mismatched baggy shirts and pants, that he strives to keep clean.

Personality:

Daniel feels that his main calling and purpose in life is to protect his sister. Daniel is loyal, responsible, and usually resourceful. He can come across as dorky at first, because he is awkward and intelligent. The constant presence of his sister Darrien adds to the awkwardness people feel around him.

Because of his constant devotion to Darrien, he does not have many friends willing to put up with him. Those few friends he does have are wonderfully loyal people, and he loves people who can make him laugh.

Daniel is very sensitive, and doesn't take jokes lightly. But because of all his past struggles, Daniel is optimistic that he and Darrien can survive and make something of themselves in District Eight
. Daniel's ambition is to be a carpenter.

History:

On a cold winter night, about twelve years ago, two children turned up outside the community home in District Eight. It was little Daniel and his sister Darrien. Nobody knows who their parents are, or if they're still alive.

From the beginning, Daniel huddled protectively around his sister. When he was picked up, he watched his sister down below. When they picked Darrien up, she began to cry, causing Daniel to bite the caretaker who was holding him and kick at the one holding his sister.

Daniel never really had an innocent childhood. He had to grow up pretty quickly.

For all these years, his life has been exactly the same. Go to school, take Darri back home, go to work with the animals, return to the home, read to Darrien, and go to sleep. It's an unchanging schedule.

The tedium of his life and the heavy responsibility can cause Daniel to have a violent temper, and when he gets angry, he lases out, often hurting (usually just emotionally) himself or people around him.

When not looking after his sister, he likes to read, play with animals, and finds a special joy in building things.

He would never let anyone know it, but sometimes even he gets exasperated by his sister. Though he loves her dearly, he sometimes wishes she was normal and he didn't have to always take care of her.
