Personality:
Amaryllis is pretty average looking. Not gorgeous, but not ugly either. Though, in her district she is one of the luckier ones when it comes to looks. She dosen't really care what she looks like ;however, she prefers beauty on the inside. Her face makes her look about a year or two older than she is and she hates it. She prefers the innoncence of youth. Her more mature face means people expect more out of her and all she wants to do is be a kid. Am is very pale, but was born with naturally dark brown hair. It's different, but works on her for some reason. Her choclate brown eyes add to this, making her look even more unique. Though her father always told her that you can tell everything she was feeling by looking into her eyes.
Amaryllis has an average build but is a little on the short side at only 5"5. The muscles in her legs are a lot more pronounced though. She enjoys running so much that she just does it for fun. After years and years of it they started to build. It seems to set her body slightly out of proprtion. Her face is a lot more angular, making appear to be quite mean. But when she smiles she looks warm and inviting. The majority of the time she is smiling, giving her smile lines. She dosen't mind them though, it lets people know that she is a happy person. Her nose is a bit large for her awfully petite face and her top lip is slightly smaller than her bottom.
At first glance, Amaryllis seems to be a very mature and sophisticated person. In reality, she's the exact opposite. She is a very happy and bubbly person who likes to live life to the fullest. She takes chances, generally not thinking about the consequences. Her rash descisions can lead to trouble at times. Something that weakens her a bit is a tendency to show emotions quite easily. It dosen't really bother her however. It's better to let people know how you feel then keep it bottled up, right?History:
Am is a person who values all life. No matter who small or insigniffigent the creature may seem she believes it has a right to live. She has to leave the room when someone kills a bug. Eating meat dosen't really bother her. As long as she isn't watching the animal be killed she's fine ;besides, she does her best not to think of that. This is one of the reasons she despises The Hunger Games. If all people have an equal right to live, why do we kill eachother off? It's extremely pointless to her and makes her quite mad. Amaryllis is a very humble person. There are two things she will admit pride to. The first being able to pick up on things very quickly. The other her ability to evade. Though she is a very friendly person, she prefers to be alone. She can always find great hiding places and blend into the crowd easily. Even though she enjoys being different, the thought of being noticed scares her to death.
While Amaryllis smiles constantly they are not always real. She puts on a front to protect herself from being hurt again. Her difficult and lonely childhood plays a huge part in this. Since she had to hide it before it became natural for her. Though, it's probably quite obvious since she has to look down everytime her eyes start to tear up.While Am is very forgiving she has a short temper. And once you do something to hurt her or her family she may forgive you but she'll never forget. And she will gurantee you that one day you'll pay for it. Amaryllis dosen't trust many people. That is most likely since she trusted her mother to take care of her, but she ended up abandoning her. One of the few things she will never be able to forgive.
Amaryllis had a pretty decent childhood. Her family wasn't rich but they weren't in the poorest class of their district either. They were well fed, lived in a decent house, and the whole family got along very well. In other words, she was one of the lucky ones. Until the unthinkable happened. Her sister Magnolia was reaped for the 49th Hunger Games. Her sister,Mag, as delicate and precious as the flower she was named for. It was unbelievable. Her mother had imediatley broken down in tears, giving up all hope. Believing she was a goner. But Magnolia hadn't.Codeword: Odair
She stood there, stone faced and determined. And right she was not to give up hope, she made it quite far in the Games. To the final eight actually. Which means that her family was interviewd. Well, Am wasn't since she was only four, but the others were. Her mom, dad, and Gladiolus, her older brother. That was one of the nights she remembered clearly. Her mother wasn't sulking around the house anymore, she had regained hope. Sometimes, Amaryllis wished she hadn't. Because the next day her sister was brutally killed by a pack of mutts. It practically destroyed her mother. From then on all she did was lay in bed, eat, and sleep. The doctor deemed her unfit to work so her father had to take up a double shift. The only time he had for her was at night. But by then he was so exhausted that he cooked dinner then went to sleep. So she had grown up without a mother, a father, and soon after a brother.
The moment her brother turned nineteen he was gone. He couldn't deal with it anymore. Am's only salvation left in the world just got up and left. No goodbye, no explanation. Just gone. He did leaver her something though. A locket, with a paper next to it that said "I'm sorry". At first she whipped the locket across her room so angry with him, knowing what he did was one of the few things she deemed unforgivable. Her angered subdued and she started crying, feeling alone. She felt horrible for throwing the locket so she ran over to where it landed and picked it up. Under closer examination she noticed that it was in the shape of a flower with five petals. It took her a long time to gather the courage to open it. But when she finally did she was pleasently surprised.
Once opened, each of the five petals spread away from the center and opened. Each one contained a picture of each of her family members. The most recent ones by the looks of it. Surprisingly, Gladiolus managed to find ones where they were all smiling. Engraved in the center were the words "Keep smiling. No matter how far we may seem we are always in your heart." Amaryllis immediatley broke down crying again and fell asleep clutching the locket like it was life. Which in her eyes, it was.
After that, things picked up for Am a bit. She still preferred to be alone and always found the best hiding spots, but she started talking to people again instead of just completley avoiding them. She also made it a habbit to smile whenever she could. One Sunday, her dad made a day for just the two of them. Since District 9 used to be the hunting district her great great grandfather was an outstanding hunter. And it was family tradition to teach your sons how to hunt and use a knife properly. But, since he didn't have a son anymore he decided to teach Amaryllis instead. When he said the word hunt she had a spazz. Since hunting in her eyes was killing innocent creatures, But then, he changed his words saying she would be learning how to use a knife. She didn't mind that, self protection right? She had picked up very quickly. Her father made every Sunday for the two of them and her aim and throw started to improve. After a while her father suggested practicing on real targets. She threw the knife down, started to cry, and ran away. There was no way she was killing anything. It took her father over an hour to find her. Then he apologized for even suggesting it. They found other things to do on Sundays. Even though they're relationship has improved she still won't trust him completley. As for her mother, she can't even stand to look at her. Am hates that she abandoned them in a time of great need. Her brother, the only thing that had kept her sane in those rough years, is never really seen. She looks for him at reapings and everytime she thinks she may have found him, the person turns away to quickly to be sure. If only she could thank him for that locket that possibly saved her life.
