Appearance:

Cyrus stands at five foot eleven inches and weighs around 165 pounds. He’s got blond hair and brown eyes, and an athletic build. He usually wears his hair cropped short, and due to working outside much of the time he has a healthy tan. He prefers to spend as much time without a shirt or shoes on as possible, though in the colder months he has learned that this isn’t always possible. If he has to wear anything, usually it’s a trusty pair of overalls and a pair of worn sneakers.

He’s always managed to keep on more of his weight than other boys, and with the amount of heavy work he now does, his body has started to put on muscle. Able to lift up to seventy-five pounds and quite good with his hands, Cyrus has always been one of the strongest of his friends. He does have a few scars on his back, including a bad burn on his left shoulder blade due to the work done building pieces of transportation/aerodynamics in district 6. He’s not unhandsome, but he doesn’t tend to make much fuss about how he looks.

Personality:

Cyrus is very much willing to accommodate rather than select a particular course of action. He prefers not to say too much and can be seen as standoffish or cold to those who don’t know him well. Solitude and quiet are two of his favorite things, and he much prefers spending time doing rote, remedial tasks on his own over having to resolve disputes between people. He does not have a good grasp of people or emotions, and he tends to shy away from interaction.

Praise is also not something that Cyrus is used to, and will try not to take credit for work that has been done. He feels himself part of a group rather than as much of an individual, and sees anything he contributes as part of the whole, rather than something that he created. He also appreciates straight lines, logical order, and cleanliness. He does not enjoy when things cannot be explained, nor does he enjoy when something doesn’t quite “fit.”

He’s got a slow way of speaking, and he is embarrassed by the way he sometimes takes a lot of time to explain himself. Thus he prefers to say a few sentences, or perhaps agree with someone even if he doesn’t necessarily agree with them himself. He is also not easily swayed into doing anything unless he is absolutely certain of the outcome. Thus, it is hard for him to develop a close bond of trust with anyone.

History:

Cyrus is the older of two boys in his home. His brother’s name is Naif. His father (Devon) is a wielder and technician that works on the materials used to create trains, planes, and other means of transportation in Panem. He has helped to get Cyrus a position as an apprentice, which allows him to work with the metals and prepare them for future wielding. This exposed him to a number of complex pieces of machinery, as well as a love for the way things are constructed. He enjoys most of his time being with his father, a deeply traditional man who never says much of anything.

His mother (Eloise) has always faced health issues throughout his life, especially after his brother Naif was born. Cyrus learned how to deal with different types of colds and symptoms due to his mother’s bouts with illness. Because of spending time with her, he also learned to identify plants and flowers (a passion of hers). Because of her illnesses, Eloise spends much of her time in doors, tending to the house. Her inability to keep a job has left her to sew clothes and other materials in order to provide some sort of additional income for the family.

As for schooling, Cyrus has excelled in mathematics, but not in writing. He appears to be naturally gifted with the use of numbers. He does poorly when working with others, and tends to shy away from expressing his own thoughts. He would rather be able to repeat something, get it correct, and move on, though his teachers see potential for much more from Cyrus. He has hopes that maybe if he is able to work with numbers later on in life, he’ll be able to do something that doesn’t involve working with people.
