Ok, I'm in the process of creating my character, and I just have a few questions. The first: at what age are careers put into the academies? and second: are the academies voluntary or are they mandatory? and third: can tributes be pulled out of the academy before they turn 18?

Hi! I'm not a staff member or anything, but I'll help you with what I can. I'm pretty sure the books state that Careers are trained throughout their childhood until the age of 18, when they volunteer to go into the Games. I would think they're voluntary, because not everyone wants to enter the arena and only two kids can do it per year, so it wouldn't make sense if every teen was trained. I'm assuming they can be pulled out if they want to be, just as you can choose to be trained. Someone's character on the site was trained for a few years but dropped out because they didn't want to do it.

Thanks! I appreciate the help! I do have one more question: are the Career academies like a boarding school kind of thing, or do they live at home and just go to 'career school" instead of regular school?

Careers just go to school like in any other district. (: The only difference is that they have supposedly "secret" training outside to prepare them for the Games.

So, I know I'm new and all, but I'm just kinda wondering how one would go about getting involved in threads and or just getting something going? I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything, but there seems to be a lack of open threads in my district and I'm kinda chomping at the bit.

You can make an open thread yourself and wait/hope for other people to join you. Otherwise, you can ask around in the cBox or in the Character Plots board to arrange someone to write with you.
