Welcome to the Decathlon tournament of the very first Panem Olympic Games! The track and field complex is located within the Olympic Arena, with stands for spectators traveling from Districts One, Two, Four, and the Capitol to watch the competitors. Television cameras are set up around as well, to broadcast the event to anyone staying home as well as to the other districts who aren't as lucky and competent as you all! Please be sure you stretch and warm up with your coaches before you're called to the starting block, and remember, make your district proud!

The execution of this event is simple. Feel free to roleplay your character on the starting blocks and running, and then paste the code [*dice=349+1150] without the asterisks into your post and roll, as you would with a Hunger Games die. This will result in a four-digit number that will correspond to a time, which is read with a decimal point separating the first two and the last two digits (e.g. 1264 is read as 12.64 seconds)

Additionally, you must paste the code [*dice=10] into your post for number of hurdles knocked over. This number will be divided by three and all remainders will be ignored. (So if you roll a 1 or a 2, you would knock down 0 hurdles; 3, 4, 5 would be 1 hurdle; 6, 7, 8 would be 2 hurdles; 9 and 10 would be 3 hurdles) One second will be added onto your score for each knocked down hurdle.

The competitor with the lowest time wins this event. Times for this event will be continually updated on this thread; however, the overall decathlon standings will be updated on a separate thread.

After everyone has rolled, feel free to edit your post with your character's reaction if you so desire, but please keep it to one post rather than multiple.

There is NO POSTING ORDER; you may post your shots whenever you please. Keep in mind, though, that this is meant to move pretty fast, so we're not looking for exceedingly long posts.

Tiger was thrilled to be back at a running event after his less-than-stellar performance in discus and dismal throws in shot put. As he'd already proven with his first place in the 100m sprint, running was something that he was quite capable at. If there was something that would trip him up — literally — in this next event, it would be the hurdles. He was decidedly quick, but he wasn't entirely confident in his ability to clear ten nearly-three-foot hurdles. Tiger's feet were rather large, matching his massive paw-like hands; they weren't clumsy, but no amount of coordination could keep them from getting snagged on table legs, door frames, power cords — the list went on.

The runners were called once again to the starting blocks and Tiger could feel himself settling into focus. His blood rushed somewhere behind his ears, drowning out the roar of the crowds, the last minute pieces of advice hurled at the runners from the coaches on the sidelines, the smalltalk of the officials. He took a deep breath, then another, trying to settle himself into a comfortable rhythm for running, for jumping. Not being much of a math whiz — or gifted in any academic subject, really — Tiger didn't bother trying to calculate the exact place he should step to clear the first hurdle as he knew that his brother Leo would in this situation. He didn't have to think about it; Tiger could just feel it.

The starting pistol fired, and he took off down the track, not letting his eyes wander to the runners in the other lanes as they cleared their own jumps. He refused to allow any unnecessary information into his slightly below-average brain, needing all of its processing power to clear the hurdles in the most efficient manner possible. Besides, what sort of runner would he be if he looked anywhere besides straight ahead of him?

Tiger's foot snagged on the third hurdle, causing him to stumble for a few steps. He tried to keep running, but with his focus entirely shattered, the next hurdle became a snare for his massive feet as well. Fortunately, he didn't tumble to the ground, but the sinking feeling in his stomach let him know that he couldn't possibly have done much worse. And running was supposed to be his thing...

The 56th victor was pretty sure she'd done hurdles maybe twice in her life. She'd never seen the point in such a useless apparatus; what were they, horses? What was the point in jumping over things? If she found herself in a situation where something less than four feet tall blocked her path, she'd either go around it or climb over it; there was no point in hurtling towards it at top speed and then clearing it with a colossal leap. So during training she'd often ignored her coach's instructions to practice running hurdles, and instead just simply ran laps; at least that built up speed and stamina, useful skills in the arena.

She was a bit worried about what the outcome of the decathlon would be for her. She'd done stellar on the discus throw, decent on shot put, but absolutely dismal in the hundred meter sprint; she'd realized half way through it that her body was not what it used to be and therefore couldn't handle the things it used to be able to, and ended up nearly in dead last; as far as she'd known, only the Bryze cousin had been behind her. This surprised her; she was a relative of Julian and she had trouble with a sprint? Maybe she'd stumbled on her own feet or something. Well who are you to talk? You were practically just as bad, puffing across the finish line like a fifty-year-old. Well, she'd have to make up for it in hurdles, right? Good luck, sweetheart.

He walked onto the field. It was time for the next sport in the decathalon. It was the 100m hurdles. He walked onto the grass and started stretching and looked around. He could see the others comin in. Then he saw the referees motion for the competitors to get on the track. He got into his postion. Ligned up. It seemed like time slowed down. He breathed heavily as he looked onto the the hurdles. There was a lot and he was afraid. Then he heard it.

*boom*

The sound of the gun brought him back to reality. He sprinted off with the others.

After a few small stretches and shedding his silver warm-up suit, Nate marched up to the starting line, poised and ready to run. He figured that hurdles wouldn't be too much of a stretch from hurdles - it was all about timing. Too early, and he'd land right on the jump, too late, and he'd knock it over. So far, his attempts at events had been average - nothing outstanding, but at least not a total failure. Unaware of where he was in the overall standings, he shrugged and figured that he should just do his thing and get it over with, and if he fell flat on his face... well, he could deal with that shame later.

The gun went off, and he was away.

Hurdles. Jumping. She had the speed for this event, but height wasn't on her side. At all. Still, she needed no special help, and she wasn't going to try and ask for any. She could do this. Ever since the javelin throw, things seemed to be turning around for her, and she was determined to keep them going the way they'd decided to go now. She had a chance at winning this thing if she could at least manage, and she was beyond doing that. She found her marker, and was ready to do what seemed kind of impossible. It was as if each of these event were designed to push her harder than the rest of the people in the damn arena! Like she cared, whenever she ended up winning, it would just be that much glory, the fact that she had to overcome so much more than the other competitors, and still managed to come out on top? Priceless.

She focused her cold stare forward, acting as if nobody else was there. It was just her and the obstacles in front of her. Nobody was going to phase her. Nobody was going to take her attention away from the task at hand. She was going to win. She had to win. She knew what was in store if she didn't, and she really didn't feel like being made a fool of by Julian in front of everybody in the training center, or at least when he was there. Which was only half of the time, now that he'd decided Mace was more important than his entire life. Whatever.

Her eyes automatically went to the score board, and she almost got excited when she saw that she'd done better than most of the other competitors, including a boy from her district that was big enough to step over the hurdles, and Topaz Ross. Good. No, as a matter of fact, it was great. It was about time she started showing everybody what she could do.

After a decent showing in Long Jump, Apex was excited at the prospect of another event where he could display his attention to technique and his body’s flexibility at the same time. He shook himself loose at the start line, he needed to be as limber as possible if he was going to try to win the event. He knew he needed to be one of the first few off the line, but he had to be careful not to knock down too many hurdles.

He walked to the line, jumping up and down in place, completely focused on the task at hand instead of the competitors that were too busy sizing eachother up. If he was going to have any chance in the decathlon, he would have to impress the event. The shot was fired, and Apex got off to a better start than he had in the sprint. He managed to be one of the first ones across, while also managing to knock down only one hurdle. Even with the penalty, Apex had one of the best times in the entire race.

Hurdles were a passion of hers. Not because leaping over tall obstacles was a survival skill (unless one could leap over an opponent’s sword during the Hunger Games), but because it was challenging and impressive when one could complete a series of them perfectly. It was a shame that her priss of sister couldn’t leap over one properly. Locusts lips curled into a grin as she recalled Priscilla attempting to mimic her movements after she leapt over objects that seemed too tall for a human being to soar over so elegantly whilst landing flawlessly upon both feet without difficulty. She knew that because her sister was such a nosy bitch she would be drawn to the crowds surrounding the field, or at least try to watch her on television while she bathed in her own emerald pool of envy. Did it even matter if Locust was winning? Probably not. Priscilla would be fuming no matter what the outcome, because while she had taken the cowardly route Locust had stolen an opportunity to act bold. Now, she was being broadcast across Panem - a dream her sister and her mother only wished Priscilla could achieve. Not that she truly deserved it, of course. Unless she was in the arena testing the skills her mother so thunderously boasted about.

None of that mattered, though. Locust knew that Priscilla’s career training was only suited for desperate emergencies - the emergency being her summoning to the Hunger Games if her name was ever pulled. She, on the other hand, trained for her own personal pleasure. She wanted control in case some cocky son-of-a-bitch tried to rob her or take advantage of her. Besides, having swift legs and a quick hand had its advantages, especially in the Olympic games - an event nobody had predicted would occur. Especially one coming from President Snow, a man of tyranny and ruthless malevolence despite his seemingly composed demeanor. Props to him for creating them, she thought. They were friendly games that didn’t torture families and murder children. They were even enjoyable despite Locust’s low ranking in her events. She merely shrugged it off, though. As rosy-faced and humiliated as she felt after her terrible javelin tossing and long jump, she was now dedicated to competing just for the hell of it. Who knows, maybe after this event was finished she could pull a few pranks on the proud show-offs who were reveling in first-place glory. Now that would earn quite a few laughs from her and the other losing competitors.

A soft smirk gracing her lips, she took off sprinting toward the row of hurdles waiting to either remain motionless or get clumsily knocked over by a careless Locust.
